Really.... I have a bone to pick on this one as well. Is that why you had 4 teams bolt for our conference???

Or is that why you only have what 2 or 3 bowls and we have 5???

My name isn't Jack, Dick.

The football team has a much higher graduation rate than that. Look it up before you throw it around as truth.

I know a program is more than 5 years. BSU has the 10-11th all time highest winning percentage in college football. It has a great tradition.

Yes, I am the one that asked what school you are a fan of cuz usually if someone doesn't have it in their moniker it's for a good reason.

A Pirate shouldn't get himself into a pecker contest with a Bronco (unless he enjoys feeling fully inadequate). literaly and figuratively.

BTW: CUSAWest is like the worst of the WAC teams for the last few years without any of the good ones, ie BSU, FSU, Hawaii, and sometimes La Tech.

So yes I think UTEP will dominate CUSAW

All current D1 teams since 1950

Really.... I have a bone to pick on this one as well. Is that why you had 4 teams bolt for our conference???

Or is that why you only have what 2 or 3 bowls and we have 5???
**************************************************************************************

It's true, ECU has been D1 for decades longer than Boise and your conference has 5 bowl games. Doesn't address why Boise is the better program now does it? And in case you've been asleep, the bowls for non BCS conferences are based on population and TV sets, not competition.

Bigger is bigger, it's not better. Same with older. You don't think much of Boise' program, that's cool. ESPN and others we've actually played will disagree with you.

Now THAT'S funny!!

Two comments about bowl games: 1) CUSA bowl tie-ins are a carryover from before Louisville et al bolted; 2) CUSA has 12 teams, the WAC has 9.

Yes, I am the one that asked what school you are a fan of cuz usually if someone doesn't have it in their moniker it's for a good reason.

BTW: CUSAWest is like the worst of the WAC teams for the last few years without any of the good ones, ie BSU, FSU, Hawaii, and sometimes La Tech.

So yes I think UTEP will dominate CUSAW

I swear I read about Boise State in Sports Illustrated and their piss poor graduation rates.

If you will notice I asked you the question two times and you sure were not quick to answer to it or tell me I was incorrect then. I have a feeling you know more about this than you are letting on :) What was it then?? 30%. I know it was worst in college football according to the article.

If you want to pride yourself on kicking the crap out of D1aa teams out west in the rocky mountains ( real hotbed of talent) and lowly d1a scrubs since you have moved up thats fine, and actually helps me prove the point I was making all along, you guys play no one.. We have always been in D1a since its classification in the late 70's and have always played a tough slate of nationally known teams #48 isn't bad at all IMO thanks for the post :).

Heck you guys were in Division 2 and "small college" classified as late as 1978. Do you really want to start counting your wins for ten years over powerhouses like Linfield and Westminster College LMAO :) We were playing teams like LSU and Penn State about that time :)

As far as my handle that is my handle on everything.

Enough about your graduation-rate argument. It isn't true. Boise's long-term rate is 54%.

Now THAT'S funny!!

Two comments about bowl games: 1) CUSA bowl tie-ins are a carryover from before Louisville et al bolted; 2) CUSA has 12 teams, the WAC has 9.
Hey Mr Nevada see the above post for the explanation you to were also D2.

As far as the bowl bids when they were signed we had 11 teams and Louisville was down and basically a scrub until about 6 years ago when all these deals were signed. Trust me Louisville didn't help us land all those bowls. Houston Tulane were good at the inception of the conference and S. Miss and ECU really helped position the conference for those bowl bids.

Heck ECU had an individual tie- in with the Liberty Bowl ourselves until 97 when we decided to give up indy status. (Notre Dame with the Gator Bowl was the only other team with a deal like that)

Where is the WAC's Liberty Bowl? That is the best bowl for non - BCSer's we all know this.

You guys had what 10 or 11 teams until last year. Why haven't you got more bowls? Nuff said there is a reason TCU, UTEP, Rice, SMU, and Tulsa jumped and it's not cause CUSA is a worse conference. It doesn't take a genious to see that.

Ours was over 75% top 25, and no that doesn't settle anything. I know what I read, SI was talking about programs and how crappy there graduation rates were. BSU even had had a picture holding up a bowl trophy. I am telling you it was like 17%.

That link you posted was from:

"*Four-class averages, for scholarship players entering school from 1994-97"

Well hell BSU was D1aa until 1997 why would they need to get the dredges that couldn't go else where at that point. The article I was referring to was released around 2001 or 2002 when they first started getting noticed, SI gave the back ground on how they were successful. I would love to see the numbers since 1998. Marshall and Boise State were some of the worst offenders. Bosie State was THE #1 offender according to SI.

Like I said Look it up. You brought it up. I'm not your secretary. I don't know it off the top of my head, so I, unlike you, want to be careful about throwing out stats that I'm not sure of.

"If you want to pride yourself on kicking the crap out of D1aa teams out west in the rocky mountains ( real hotbed of talent) and lowly d1a scrubs since you have moved up thats fine, and actually helps me prove the point I was making all along, you guys play no one.. It is BSU's history so "it is what it is" It does have a tradition at winning at all levels it has been in. Those numbers also include the bodybag games as well as the easy wins. It is very relative we competed and recruited against like schools. It is just as hard to win at that level with those resources as it is to be a winner in the SEC (they are like schools with like resources).

If you can understand this: The odds of any given team in D-1aa to win a National Championship or having a winning season is no better in 1aa than it is in D1A.

As far as hotbed of talent it shows how little you know. The majority of recruits that BSU gets are from California. (The same place USC gets theirs). BSU and Fresno compete well for the same recruits that the PAC10 does. BSU/FSU are recruiting talent far above the rest of the current WAC. Most of the Idaho kids on the team are walk ons (and there are few at that).

So you are correct that the mountain west is not a hotbed of football talent, luckily BSU doesn't have to depend on the MW for recruiting.

So? The 4 teams have historically been bottom feeders. It doesn't really hurt a conference if 3 last place teams leave. I would have liked to see UTEP stay but oh well.

How about TCU a couple of years before that?

Look we know the progression it was pretty clear of how the conferences lined up.

ACC raids the Big East
Big East raids CUSA
CUSA raids the MAC and WAC (TCU bails to MWC)
the WAC raids the Sun Belt
The Sun Belt pulls D1aa teams up quickly

If you would like to believe the WAC will be better fine, I don't buy it. There is a reason Idaho, New Mexico State and Utah State were left out of the WAC to begin with.

When you are a 1aa team it is just as hard to compete against other 1aa teams as it is for D1a teams to compete against other D1a teams. What part don't you get. Back when BSU, UNR, UI, UM, were all in the Big Sky conference together it was the 1AA equivalent of the SEC or Big 10. Nothing to be ashamed of.

BSU's history is what it is. (Successful at every level it has played at)

Just drop that one because BSU fans aren't ashamed of it, they are proud of it. So lets just agree to disagree.

Before you say that this is how it is and expect me to buy it, give me a link or some proof instead of pulling it out of your arse and saying that it is true. 05-nono

I did look up some recruiting numbers and stats. (no surprise, BSU is lightyears ahead of not only your Pirates but all other non-bcs teams and many BCS teams)

Jonesing, I did your homework for you as well.

Sorry, I didn't see that this had already been posted. BSU has better grad rates now than it did then. You may be thinking of Fresno. I have read some things naming Fresno (in the past) but never Boise. I'm sure I would have heard it before if it had any merit.

Boise State having bad grad rates in the football team is news to me.

football grad rates

Graduation Rates. From the most recent batch of graduation rates available from the NCAA report released in 2003, the rate was divided by ten for a score. For example, Bowling Green's most recently released graduation rate for football players was 42%, so it gets a score of 4.2. When the football class graduation rate isn't available, the four-year rate is used. When that's unavailable, the overall male student-athlete rate is used. One important note, the NCAA looks at whole classes, so a team's graduation rate might not always be indicative of what the current coaching staff is responsible for.
Why this is important: After all, these are supposed to be student-athletes out there playing. This is a good indicator for how much emphasis a program places on academics rather than simply using the football players for their on-the-field talents.

What planet are you living on dude. Exactly how many teams in D1aa or D2 for that matter have played on national TV every week since TV was invented??? It is a completely different level competing with schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, and Florida. Bosie State is in a major national city, you should be able to kick the crap out of D2 and D1aa schools, you have plenty of to sale over most of those schools stuck on the side of a mountain in the middle of no where, I would imagine.

Up until the 90's schools like Ohio State and Michigan could give as many scholarship as they wanted!!!! How the heck do you think schools like ECU could compete when they were giving 85 scholarships and money dogs like Michigan and Notre Dame had been filling there 100,000 seat stadiums for years and were handing out 130 scholarships??? Scholarship limits are a recent mandate.

Get real the two are worlds apart it is a lot harder to compete on the big stage. There is far from a level playing feild. Now we have this thing called the BCS where school like us don't even have access, oh wait we never did anyway. In D1aa you have playoffs anyone has a chance. You should know this Boise State. Hell you went undefeated and the best you could do was the Liberty Bowl. Don't feed me that crap that its all relative.

As far as recruiting in Football, it is clearly the least accurate because players only have 12-15 game to be evaluated, unlike Basketball that has 30 high school games plus 30 or more AAU games every years. Football is far from a science and players can be built in the weight room.

I actually think Holtz did very well in the one month he had to recruit with. Watch this season and see what he does when he has a full year to build relationships and to recruit. Last year he had to scramble to get a staff together and contact kids getting the job a month before signing.

Why don't you post the numbers from the year when we had a coach that actually recruited all year not just one month infact How about the year before?? Here you go......

........ECU in 2004 coming off a 1-11 season we had the #81 class, Boise State coming off a 12-1 season and had the #85 class :)

(Rivals is a better server they had you at #64 in 2005 and #85 in 2004 and #101 in 2003, not exactly loading up with top 15 talent)

Lets do scout.com since you like the scout numbers:

again in a year when ECU had a head coach all season in 2004 coming off a 1-11 season our class was ranked by your beloved scout.com #73...... Boise State by contrast coming off a 12-1 season was #72.

Great numbers :)

Once again you prove you are a dumb arse.

Go to scout.com and sort them by AVG.

Since we only recruited 14 the point totals don't mean much against schools that recuited 25 or more.

I wrote average and that's all that really matters. What is the average ranking of each athlete?

I see that you still don't understnd the success thing against "like" competition. We had X number of schollies (less than 1A teams) and D1 (talent level) players went to D1.

On a level playing field with our competiton BSU did fine (just like it is doing now and will continue to do in the future). Comparing a 1AA to 1A teams is like comparing 1A teams to NFL teams. It's like me asking you how ECU would do against the Patriots. It makes no sence. The only way to compare is how they did against like competition. You really don't just want to use are 1A %.

It's stupid for you to try to debate how BSU would have or did do as a 1AA program against 1A programs.

That's fine, we can just drop that.

Look at the grad rate list again. It may be that you were thinking BYU not BSU?

I don't know, just a thought. :)

No I didn't get them confused, I know what I read in Sports Illistrated. Maybe you have improved since then on your grad rates.

Did I mention that off that 1-11 team (only win over winnless army) we had 5 guys make NFL rosters the next season. (How many have you guys had in the last few years) Two were rookie starters two more played some as back ups. We had 5 more all-conference guys that will probably end up with NFL shots on that team as well that were underclassmen then.

We aren't exactly hurting for talent, and aren't nearly as down as the record indicates. We just had a mickey mouse coaching staff that squandered talent. We corrected that problem and signed a proven head coach with a name that will get any kids attention.

If Coach Holtz called you would you answer the phone? I would. UConn was a prenial doormat and had had 3, 8 win season in 100 years of playing football. In 5 years Skip Holtz had them ranked in D1aa with a 7, 8, and 10 win seasons and laid the foundation for their move to D1aa. He can build a program. He left after the 10 win season to join his dad in S. Carolina because his mother had cancer at the time and he wanted his kids to be close to his parents as well as himself. He was the Urban Meyer of 1998. I think we got a steal myself I have never been as excited about Football at ECU.

BTW on your numbers the average star ratings, you were barley ahead of us in 2004 when we had a head coach the whole year. Your beloved scout.com Boise State 1.96 average for 25 recruits. ECU 1.87 for 30 recruits.

What the hell does that say that on a 1-11 season we can recruit almost even if not better than a 12-1 top 15 school??

Honestly, I think that Urban Myer was the Dan Hawkins of 2004.

Did you figure out the Average recruit thing?

Is it possible that you confused BSU with BYU in the grad rate thing.

I really do hope that ECU turns the corner and has a great future. I am all for the little guy.

Don't tell me about UConn's wins in 1AA. Those wins don't mean a thing according to you. :)

just kidding, BTW. BSU was in the 1AA NC not MNC game in 1994 right before it went 1AA and won it in 1980. That championship is more legit than any offered in 1A. You can snicker about it if you want but it actually has a tourny. (think about it) :)

What the hell are you looking at. Look at Scout.com 2005. it is 2.57 we only took 14 this year.

Must I prove this also?

think click on Avg. Rat.

It will resort them for you. (it doesn't re-number them so you have to count) it lists 25 per page.

I'll do the same on rivals for you. give me a few minutes. 04-cheers
