Quote:A second stripper who performed at a Duke University lacrosse party where a dancer said she was assaulted called the allegations a "crock" in early interviews with police, according to court papers filed by a defense lawyer.
How can any prosecutor still go forward with this case?

Although it seems like interest in this case has waned, it still shows up occasionally on some radio networks. I listened to one discussion yesterday about the "new" revelation that the second stripper (the "how can I spin this" one) originally told police the other's story was a "crocK". I thought that was old news.
Anyway, the discussion went to what Nifong could do, should do, with a rapidly weakening case. It was suggested that he had, for short-term political gain, jumped into the case without fully and properly investigating it and found himdelf with a dog of a case. BUT he cannot drop it without losing his political base, so most likely he will pursue it to a trial, and when he loses, he can blame the jury.
I hate seeing justice perverted at the altar of politics. yes, it is an old, old story, but that doesn't make it any better. Those families will be out hundreds of thousands of dollars and the rape accusations will follow those three guys all their life. Quick, what's the first thing you think of when I say the name William Kennedy Smith? Yep, that's right, the guy who got away with rape, not the guy who was acquited becase he didn't do it. A not guilty verdict is NOT exoneration. OJ Simpson proves that.
