flyingswoosh Wrote:no offense, but what is sidney ponson, chop liver? He's won 16 games this season. He's averaged over 7 innings/start for the Giants and has a 3.25 ERA with them. Rueter is an amazing clutch pitcher (except last year against the Braves) and Jerome Williams is good for a 4th starter.
Ponson hasn't proved he can pitch in the playoffs. Maybe he will pitch well, but I've got to see it first. Remember, this is a guy who has had some question marks about his maturity.

Ponson's maturity doesn't seem to be a question this season. Also, schmidt was great in the playoffs, and that was his first time.

Lackey (who was a rookie and obviously hadn't pitched in the playoffs ever) outpitched Livan hernandez in game 7.

Hey, I never said Ponson would pitch bad in the playoffs. In fact I said he might pitch well. I've just got to see him pitch well in the postseason before I say he's a good postseason pitcher.

I understand what you're saying, but i'm just telling you that the chances Ponson will pitch well , are very good.

forget what i said about the Giants having the least flawed team in the league. They have no 3rd starter. Rueter, ever since getting hurt, has sucked. Jerome Williams might have hit a wall. If williams does well in his next start, then i think he'll be fine, but in the playoffs not having an established 3rd starter can hurt.

How did Williams pitch today? I've been so into college football today so I don't know.

Jerome was amazing today. He just missed a shutout. He went 8 1/3 innings and gave up 1 run. If they really have straightened out his delivery, then that might be the third starter the Giants need.

Well, that's a positive sign. I assume the Giants won?
