As far as seeking assistance from the international community, we did. We received some help....the rest basically told us to kiss their ***. France, as well as the Russians, is now realizing that turning their backs on us doesn't win them the hearts of the Islamic Extremists. Hope something doesn't happen when France needs our help in the future because I will vote for ANYONE that tells them to bite our asses. My Grandfather fought and was wounded trying to liberate those ungrateful bastards. Bush did what he had to do. He went to the UN. Forgot that little detail did you? How about the fact that we are NOT in Iraq unilaterally. Forget that as well?
I don't swallow everything I read or hear in the press - and I have a close family member who has fought in Iraq.
Bush went to the UN, yes he did. And what they told him basically boiled down to this: It is not a good idea to march into Iraq with no provocation, Mr. Bush. You are not taking into account the nationalism of the Iraqis, Mr. Bush, and what the result will be when Saddam is gone.
And what are the results?
1000 americans dead, 20000 + Iraqi's dead, hundreds of billions of dollars spent. Thousands of US wounded.
And in Iraq?
The Kurds fighting in the north. The Sunnis and Shiites plotting against each other. Most of the large cities are NOT under American control. Seething anti-American sentiment throughout the region. How does any of this have anything to do with al Queda and Osama Bin Laden? I won't even bring up the WMD's.
I have to believe that Bush did what he thought was right in attacking Iraq... and now that we are there, we have to do what we can to keep things from falling apart. But the opinion of the rest of the world DOES matter. A recent poll showed that out of 35 countries surveyed, 30 preferred Kerry to Bush, and 3 were essentially ties - only 2 out of 35 supported Bush. What is the rest of the world telling us that we can't see ourselves?
We are not in Iraq unilaterally - there are a few countries standing with us, unwilling or unable to balk at US requests. But what is the percentage of US casualties? Percentage of US $$$$ going into the war? Percentage of US injured?
Who will the terrorists be going after?
Not Bulgaria, I would guess.
