Daschle (D), Senate Minority leader, defeated by Thune ®
Louisiana elects Vitter ® to Senate, the first Republican Senator since reconstruction in LA.
Republicans net two house seats.
Republicans net FOUR senate seats.
Republicans hold Governor lead.
Bush wins re-election after being one of the most embattled incumbent Presidents since LBJ.
Republicans are now free to set the Supreme Court.

THAT BEING SAID......

I expect Bush to get *ALOT* done, as there are NO ROADBLOCKS to him pushing legislation through. Failure to get ALOT done with this country will shake my confidence in that party.

....of course the precedent for a super-majority was set by the Democrats.

He better get alot DONE!!! No more excuses. Can only blame Clinton for so long. I pray he pushes through his agenda. Kennedy screwed Dems by helping out with NCLB. That helped Bush with the security moms. No compromise from Dems, he doesn't need it. Push your agenda through W!!!

I go from cycles of depression to being outright pissed.

I did chuckle with the healing part. Congrats your guy won!

I'm just so darn flustered. By all means Dems should of had a better showing. I can't explain it. Our only chance is for the Republicans to govern from the right so the pendulum starts to swing back my way.

Torch,

He doesn't need any compromise, he has the working majority. It's the only chance my side has. You have to stand for something. I've thought about these red states and how could Democrats make some headway. But the gay marriage issue to me is politics of hate. I can't support it. The pendulum right now is on the right. Let them lead from the right and see where the country is 4 years from now. It could be better. It could be worse. I just wouldn't compromise with Bush if I'm a senator. He doesn't need me.

...and this is my opinion,

You guys are going to have to bring your party back towards the center. What went wrong? You put the #1 and #4 Senators on the ticket. Sorry to say this, but New Englanders don't strike up much enthusiam with the rest of the country and Edwards, well, he was a first-term senator that wasn't going to be re-elected.

If the Republicans start getting too far right, I'll vote 3rd party. As a Libertarian, I feel some of Bush's policies are too far left.

One way he can crush that argument, come out in favor of civil unions. What, Republicans aren't going to vote for him again?

You know. I posted a couple of months ago that Bush is getting away with too much when it came to fiscal responsibility. I argued that Republicans would start acting like Republicans again with a Democrat in office. I tried to make a case for a split govt. It didn't resonate with too many on this board.

A lot of the spending is understandable. Then again, I think a lot was to pander to the left, I.e. aid packages, etc. Things you guys usually support but for some reason oppose because he supported it. But then again, that's jmo.

And we would not have sent him back for a 2nd term either! He was a terrible choice for VP, and he didn't contribute at all to the Kerry campaign.

Edwards didn't resign. He just didn't run again (he knew he wouldn't win).

OK Dogger,

Here's the deal. I can't argue you into changing your mind. I accept that.

But, here's an example from one of your own. A liberal guy (heck he's vegan now! :)) who challenges himself at least to understand the other side, typically by reading their materials.

I understand that you don't get why some people oppose the homosexual agenda. You see it as hate.

So, follow the lead of this guy and at least try to understand the other side. You don't have to change your beliefs, just understand the other side. Of course the caveat is, you may very well change your beliefs. But, take the step.

I'll offer you some titles and info to start with, if you want.

How's that?
