I agree. I love following baseball, especially in the playoffs, but my one problem with it is the greed. I think this represents what is wrong with baseball.
how are baseball players more "greedy" than in any other sport. i see contract disputes everywhere.

And, believe me, I don't fault A-Rod one iota for signing a 252 million dollar contract. If they offered me that, I'd take it in a New York minute. But this topic wasn't about A-Rod. It was about Roger Clemens, and it just bothers me that he is holding the Astros hostage. "If you don't give me what I want, I'll retire." Take the 13.5 million and be happy, Roger.
why should roger take less than he deserves? if your boss suddenly told you he would be paying less than what you deserve, what would you say?
Because 13.5 million is what he deserves.
BTW, he and the Astros just agreed to an 18 million dollar deal.

You're right about it being in every sport. The Latrell Spreewell thing was laughable. But it seems to be the worst in MLB.

13.5 million is what he deserves? he was the cy young winner last season, and carried the astros to the NLCS. he deserved at least 18.

18 million makes him the highest paid pitcher in baseball. Do you think he's the best pitcher in baseball? I don't.

i can't believe i didn't recognize this before. the one reason he's the highest paid pitcher in baseball, is because it's only a one year deal. if schmidt had a one year deal starting now, it would be around there. same with johnson and schilling. if clemens had been asking for a multi year deal, it would be worth less than 18/year.

Close enough to warrant making 3.5 million more than the next guy?

Maybe, but with Clemens' ego, I'd be shocked if settled for much less than 18 million even if it were a multi-year deal.

he would have had to. in exchange for more years, he would take less money. that's how multi-year deals work.
BTW, here's a good <a href='http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/273998p-234649c.html' target='_blank'>column.</a>

I know how multi-year deals work. I even said that I knew he'd take less if it were a multi-year deal. But he wouldn't have taken much less.
As for the article, I'll just say I disagree. Saying 18 million a year for a 42 year old pitcher is a bargain is laughable.
