The Tigers just signed Magglio Ordonez to a five-year, SEVENTY-FIVE million dollar deal. 75 million for a guy coming off knee surgery! I know he's a good player, but 15 million a year? No way.

This probably belongs in the offseason thread, but I thought it deserved it's own thread.

the tigers were so desperate to spend some of their money, that they were willing to overpay to get someone. i take that back, they were willing to way overpay. although, if healthy, maggs is awesome.

I agree with you that Maggs is a great player, if healthy, but that's a major if, and 15 million per year is way too much to pay for a guy who carries as much risk as he does. 5 years seems like too much, too.

I hate the guy, but you're right, he can get his clients more than they could ever dream of getting.

i agree with everything you said, but will add something more. i'm not sure if you know this, but in maggs' contract it states the tigers can void the deal after the 1st year, if that knee takes him to the DL. that's significant, because the tigers would only be out 6 mil, which is what the salary is for this coming season.

Yes, I heard Ken Rosenthal say that on the radio the other night. I think that was a smart move by the Tigers.
