Thanks for the great info Motown. That's some solid research.
I would like to address one point from the original article. One that didn't get much interest.
Quote:New computer models that look at ocean temperatures instead of the atmosphere show the clearest signal yet that global warming is well under way, Tim Barnett of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography said.
Speaking at an annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Barnett said climate models based on air temperatures are weak because most of the evidence for global warming is not even there.
This is an amazing quote. You don't even have to read between the lines to get what's being said. That is, "All those warnings and articles that have been put out over the past 20 years are BUNK."
I mean doesn't this set off warning bells for everyone? Here's a guy who is a prominent supporter of the theory of anthrogenic Global Warming, and he concedes that the pervious hype is indeed, empty, rhetorical...hype!
Yet funny enough, I don't see SF or any of those authors apologizing to RebelKev or anyone else who has been arguing this point for years!
The only thing worse is that these supporters STILL reference the Kyoto Protocol, despite it being one of the most ill-conceived, guaranteed to WORSEN the situation, ideas ever.
What's even more confusing is that a guy like SF, who abhors off-shoring and supports US smokestack industry (like Motown Bronco and myself do, I might add) seems in favor of the US adopting the Kyoto Protocol. Those two concepts are so completely incongruent, that I really cannot understand how SF buys into both of them.
Now, I disagree w/ RebelKev, and tend to side w/ position #4 on Motown Bronco's list. Work needs to be done to determine if this theory has merits. Nevertheless, there are plenty of ways to reduce emissions, that save money for the INDIVIDUAL.
Drive less, walk/bike more...use a clothesline instead of a clothes dryer in warm months...carpool...wear a sweater and keep your heat low in the winter...use gray water for plants...etc
I think those should be pursued b/c they are a win-win proposition.
