This is message board material, so take it FWIW. BUT, basically the same info is posted from two "credible" members of Warchant.com and TheSabre.com.
According to them, the ACC expansion has been agreed to in principle.
Quote:My sources state the following:
1. Miami wants to accept a invitation to be part of the ACC. However, they will NOT formally accept until the ACC has the 7 minimum votes necessary.
2. Syracuse and BC will also be part of this deal.
3. FSU and UM will be in SEPARATE Divisions.
*****4. The ACC has SIX--6 votes for expansion. And NCSU is one of them. Right now ,the NO votes are Duke and UNC. I don't know who the other school is either UMD or Wake.
5. The ACC's annual meeting next week will decide if the League will expand. If Swofford cannot get the last vote, this deal will die. I believe he will be sucessfull and my sources indicate that unless the League is ready to lose teams, this will get done.
ODDS of this being done- 95%

Quote:Expansion has been agreed upon and all that is left is signatures and execution IMHO. I don't think you will see a vote count unless it's something floated by the media. The ACC will report a united front of 100% approval by the Presidents and Chancellors with the complete backing of each and every AD and their departments. As I stated before, I believe the fine tuning is underway even as we communicate and will continue through the weekend and up until the announcement. At that juncture a committee will be appointed to oversee the transformation, integration, divisionality and scheduling of the new ACC.

I hope not.
If so, then I hope they put FSU and Miami in the same division (I don't care if that's the division we're in or not). If they split those two up, then they'd better keep the Big Four together in the same division. Heck, they'd better do that anyway.

JD - if they put FSU and Miami in the same division then it will come down to those 2 having to play again in the championship or having to play each other twice in one year.

No, it's the exact opposite:
If they put them in different divisions, they will possibly have to play once during the regular season and again in the championship. That's because they will still play each other some years during the regular season.
If they are in the same division, they'll only play once no matter what.

oops  Actually I'd just be thrilled to have Miami and the others join the conference. Maybe the jokes will stop about how weak we are

FSU and Miami will most likely be in the same division so that only one of them gets to the Championship game. They will most likely play early in the season so one of them gets that one loss out of the way. That way, the loser is more likely to get a BCS at-large bid at the end of the season.
College football rule # 3 - If you lose, its best to lose early in the season.
As far as the projections that I have seen about the conferences being split up - One will be the basketball conference with all the NC teams and Maryland and one will be the football conference with FSU, Miami, GA Tech, Clemson and so on.

I rather play Miami every year because it's good for the BCS points; besides we play them every year now, so it won't hurt the Seminoles. :D

Football Divisions
NORTH
Syracuse
Boston College
Maryland
Virginia
Duke
North Carolina
SOUTH
North Carolina State
Wake Forest
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Miami
Teams play 8 conference games -- 5 in your own division and 3 crossover games (the total could increase to 9 if the NCAA allows 12-game schedules each year). However, NCS and Wake are guaranteed annual games with Duke and UNC, and Miami is guaranteed annual games with BC and Syracuse (Big East tradition). The remaining crossover games are rotated.
Basketball Divisions
NORTH
Syracuse
Boston College
Maryland
Virginia
CENTRAL
North Carolina
Duke
North Carolina State
Wake Forest
SOUTH
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Miami
Teams play 18 conference games: 6 vs. the teams in your division, 12 vs. teams in the other 2 divisions (2 vs. 4 teams, 1 vs. 4 teams, rotating). This would enable the Big Four to preserve its rivalries. Under this setup, teams from outside a division would come to every arena three out of every four years.
For the conference tournament, the three division winners would get first-round byes, as would the wild card with the best record.

That sounds pretty good, but I still don't think the ACC should expand by 3 teams in one year.

the whole point of expansion is so that the ACC can stage a lucrative Football Championship Game...according to NCAA rules, the only way a conference can stage a football championship game is if said conference has 12 teams..therefore, one is not an option...
