Neither school seemed interested? Maybe, but I doubt it. Unless there's some kind of unspoken mandate from the MAC. The attendance would of generated a handsome payday for each school.

Hey Torch, quick question. Do you all still have that World Series of Tractor Pulls competition on your campus?

Farming is a noble profession.

(I won't deny you can zing right back at BG)

DrTorch Wrote:Yes, well you're entitled to your contrived mores. But an open forum w/ a BG scheduling Marshall thread seems about the most obvious place to state them.

Marshall cheated. We know that. It's an indisputible fact. Their cheating did harm to the conference. It took from sportsmanship and fairness that are the foundations of competitive athletics.

I have always been apalled that Ippolitti didn't strip them of their "championships".

And, I would prefer that MAC teams establish appropriate boundaries and boycott playing against them.

As for BG's schedule, Flipper ripped on me for not being concerned about the 2007 schedule. What I didn't follow up with was an affirmation that he was right. BG is NOT schduling w/ a strategy to build their team, fan base or national awareness. Scheduling a series w/ Hillbilly U is just more of the same.

My only response to this is for the benefit of Marshall fans reading this thread. My response: Torch's view appears to be in the minority among Falcon fans.

And I think that's important to say.

As for the rest:

Quote:There are plenty of teams that BG should target to get schedules with: Purdue, Kentucky, L'ville, Navy, Army, and yes even Cincinnati. All of them offer more than Marshall.

I guess I have enough faith in the power of economics to assume that if Bowling Green was capable of routinely landing better opponents for a classic home-and-home series, we would be.

Why's that? Because a good relationship w/ Marshall does such wonders for BG? 03-melodramatic

Over the next few years, Miami upcoming home-and-homes with Colorado, Minnesota, Syracuse, and Boise State, as well as a permanent date with Cincinnati. We also have money dates with Florida and Michigan on the schedule.

Why do we need a home-and-home with a second-tier ConDOA team?

Miami and Toledo both have great OOC schedules these next few years so I doubt they need Marshall. Marshall's schedule is pretty booked now that BG is on the schedule. I look for 1-AA to fill the rest of Marshall's schedule and an eventual extension of the Ohio series.

I wouldn't mind seeing Miami play Marshall, as long it was never in Huntington. I think of all the MAC schools, Marshall fans hatred of Miami is unparalleled. It's crazy what a score of 66-6 will do to fans.

I'm looking forward to seeing those cantankerous, inbred, cousin marryin, pig sexin' hillbillies in the Doyt again...or should I say "agin"? Maybe we can get Ned Beatty to appear at half time to squeal like a pig.

;-) j/k...I'm glad we signed this deal. Think Jon Voight still has a "purty mouth"?

We actually receive quite a bit more in revenue sharing from C-DOA as compared to when we were in the MAC thank you very much. 04-rock

Only to spend it all on sending your volleyball team to conference games at UTEP, Rice, SMU, etc. ;-)

Not to mention the units from the NCAA basketball tournament will decrease soon.

My impressions are that Marshall fans are very pleased with C-USA affiliation.

As for attendance, probably not too fair to complain that BG won't bring many fans to H-ton, since C-USA rivals haven't been showing up much, either from what I've read. One expectation of C-USA affiliation stated by Herd fans here before was that attendance in football and hoops would go up due to the "traveling" fans of C-USA plus renewed interest from Herd fans for the new scheduling. Don't think that has really happened although this year WVU is on the home football schedule which will undoubtedly drive up season tix sales for 2007.

MU Ticket sales...
are already at an all-time record with 14,500 sold. Over 400 sold at Choose-Your-Seat Day before Green-White Game and it's just April. Normally, July and August are big push months for tickets, but you are correct WVU is driving sales to higher than ever levels.

I think the series with Bowling Green and Ohio are good. Long-time rivals, even playing these schools when not in MAC. Good short drive for fans. Win-Win all around. All mid-major, non-BCS schools need each other for home-and-home (only WVU and Cincinnati of Big East, plus Miami, Fla. and Virginia Tech (in same year, 2011) of ACC coming to MU, besides Ohio and BGSU in next seven years, with one-and-dones at Wisconsin and Ohio State). Lots of regional games there, however, with those schools, except Miami, Fla.
Leagues like C-USA, MAC, WAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt should be working together for home-and-home series, with only one "money" game per team UNLESS the BCS team gives home-and-home to our schools, or at least 2-for-1. I don't understand why league commissioner's are not working on this, except most hope to move up themselves eventually to BCS schools.
