That is not intended to be a shot at anyone, I just think that you can guarantee a sellout in Canton no matter who is in the game. The same cannot be said about the other arenas. Start it in Canton and give it a chance to grow before you move to a larger venue.
The problem is that Canton is a horrible choice for fans. If your team wins their division and is eligible to play in the MACC, that post-season opportunity should be a treat for the fans, a chance to enjoy a long weekend out of town. Play the game in Canton, and those fans who do make the journey will drive there, then turn around and drive home.

I guess Canton has some nostalgic appeal to the diehard purists on this board, but I doubt undergrads and alums from Mt. Pleasant, Muncie, DeKalb or Buffalo or liable to see it as a desirable locale. They may make the trip to see their team, but they aren't going to stick around.
Furthermore, I think Canton really sends a bush league message to the rest of the country, which would be unfortunate given the improvements in the conferences image that have happened in the last few years.

Any of the major cities within the MAC's footprint (Chicago, Indy, Detroit, Cincy, Cleveland...hell, even Toledo or Buffalo) would be a better choice than Canton.
No corn between your ears. You are right on the money!

You got it right Boca Rocket!

I care more about having perfect indoor game conditions to see both teams at their best with no excuses like it was too cold, the field was muddy, my pants got dirty.
And more fans will go to watch an indoor MACC. More casual fans that is.

RCA Dome is my #1 choice atleast until they host a Bowl game and then that would trash some of the appeal to going to that bowl.
Plus Indy would be more fun for those interested in making a trip out of the weekend than Canton.

But if you must know, I'd rather play the game in Rick Chryst's back yard than at Marshall.
Can the Bullsh_t about fans calling for it please stop.

I have been posting on MAC boards for years and there was never really this much talk. Yea there was a few sparse talks here and there but never this public outcry like this year.

Possibly its beacuse the MAC is actually doing something for once, but it just seems weird.

I personally didnt like going to Toledo for the 2001 MACC, but you do what you have to do to win....even though we lost.

There has been discussions pretty much every year since the winter or 2000/2001 on a neutral site. That first year it ended in deciding to rotate between division winners. Each year since there has been discussion, but it hasn't been played up in the media like it has been this year.

Also, I think considering that Marshall and UCF are leaving the conference after this year more schools are willing to discuss this further than before.
Yea the media aspect was sort of my comment about the hard member. :D

Isn't cold weather and having a muddy field part of the game? I myself hate dome stadiums, it takes away from the game.JMO
I think Canton would be an ideal place to have the MACC.

Marshall fans just don't get it. The MAC didn't start with them, and won't end with them.
Yea & when it came time to make bids for the game only Huntington was a viable choice.

In 1997 it wasnt hard to figure that out especially since we had ZERO shot at making the MACC let alone winning.

It's not bull****.

But, yeah, this is about screwing Marshall.

I'm all for it. Let's do it.

If Marshall wins the division, they should play for the MAC title. I'm all for that. Always have been.

But the game should not be played at Marshall. No way.

Disloyalty should have consequences.

You're PARANOID, like every other MU poster. This has been on the table for a long time and it makes sense with the increase in media attention to move it to a neutral site.

It doesn't matter where you play it, because Marshall is going to win it anyway.

Thinking that you're hurting Marshall only makes the image of the conference smaller, by playing the game in front of 10K fans and really justifies our move out of the conference.

Put it in somebody's backyard in Ohio or in a forest in Michigan. You're not screwing Marshall.......you're making the "mac" continue to look "small"......just like the lowercase letters that I'm using.

Who cares.....where the "mac" title game is? Nobody outside of ohio really does?!?!?

I certainly hope I am able to dig out these threads in December.

Keep saying that.

Barring a really goofy matchup -- e.g., Central Florida and Central Michigan -- the game sells out in Canton. No question in my mind.

Judging by the girlish threads I'm seeing on Herd boards, I'd say this is a matter of grave concern outside of Ohio.

"Judging by the girlish threads I'm seeing on Herd boards, I'd say this is a matter of grave concern outside of Ohio."

That's because the "mac" gave Marshall, as well as everybody else in the mac east, permission to sell "mac" championship tickets, as part of season tickets. Therefore, most Marshall fans, have already put money down on tickets that were approved by the mac.

Now they're saying that the venue is going to be neutral.......the"mac" needs to make up it's f**king mind, before it authorizes teams to sell tickets, and then backpeddles and changes things. They should have never autorized this. That is the problem that most Marshall Fans have.

Go buy something, and put money down. When you go back to pick it up, have that person say......well...I don't know I may have it sold to someone else.......but I'll get back to you on that......then you'll understand the situation from "our" perspective.

Do you have any documentation showing that the MAC gave permission, or is this just more Herduenda?

Btw, the MAC doesn't have to do anything other than what it is contractually obligated to do. You should all be on your knees thanking Chryst that he didn't boot your sorry @sses out of the conference early while collecting the exit fees. I wonder if it is too late to do that now? 05-nono

Believe me.......it would make all of us happy if we were in Conf USA. Like I said, we no longer want to be here, and the rest of you don't want us here.

You can thank the Big East, for holding Boston College this year, or everyone would have gone ahead and made the changes this year. This is truly a lame duck season for all involved.

As far as documentation.......would you like to see my receipt?

Your receipt means nothing other than Marshall sold you a ticket to a game it was never going to host. Not the MAC's problem. Kind of like if they kicked you out this year even though C-USA isn't ready for you yet. Making sure that you have a place to play is not something that the MAC is contractually obligated to do.

To clarify, the MAC had no obligation to allow Marshall to play for their title. Nor did the MAC have any obligation to allow Marshall to remain in the MAC for another year. Chryst and the Presidents could have shown Marshall the door as soon as it was announced that they were leaving for C-USA. All exit fees would have still applied. Nothing was contingent upon C-USA taking Marshall in this year. Reality is a far cry from what the cornpone pundits on the Marshall boards would have you believe.

Instead of being grateful for the kindness and decency being shown towards Marshall, all we get is crying and whining about unfair treatment. Instead of realizing that Marshall no longer has a legitimate say in MAC business, but is still being allowed to play under our umbrella, we still have to listen to opinions about what the MAC should do based on nothing more than how it will affect the Herd.

This issue is all a matter of perspective...and few Herd fans seem to have any.
