KSUDan Wrote:No offense, but doesn't Kent win more games than Temple? I'm not sure that Temple could ever go at least 4-4 in the MAC.
Well, Kent certainly has had the advantage the last several years. Over the last 25, however, here's what the winning percentages look like:
Temple: .268
Kent State: .242
BTW, they are the bottom two schools on the list found here:
<a href='http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=1980&end=2004&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win+Pct' target='_blank'>25 year winning percentages</a>
Now, over the last 10 years, Temple moves to the bottom (.211), while Kent is 103 of 106 (.247).
One more stat exercise ... over the last five years, Temple actually moves UP to a tie for 105th (.250) and Kent zooms up to a tie for 97th (.323)

I can't believe y'all are spending this much time arguing over a beauty pagent in which Kirstie Alley and Rosie O'Donnell are the only contestants.

Because it was good to see someone non-KSU stick up for Kent State for once.
The MAC media days are in Detroit because of the MAC Championship game/Motor City Bowl and wanting to keep a presence in that media market. Besides, it's a lame coaches quote, "We want to be back here in December." :snore:
The media's preseason standing predictions will be released Tuesday. The MAC does not do preseason teams for football, but each school will have one player representative along with each coach. The quotes for the FSN MAC preseason show, which is usually aired in late August, are also filmed.

Give me a break!!! I guess you feel that Kent State would be one of the top teams in the Big East. I have news for you, your winning percentage would be worst than ours. Don't throw stones at glass houses!!!

I agree with you. Comparing Kent and Temple's winning percentages is like comparing apples and oranges.

Okay, so Temple's volunteering for the Kirstie Alley role.
(BTW, compare Temple's winning % against the MAC to its winning % against non-MAC in the Bobby Wallace era. Then get back to me.)

Hypothetically, no. But Temple has already made its case, so should be awarded the  prize.
Besides, we want to be Kirstie Alley.

No offense taken. The question has been asked by many a Kent State fan over the last 15 years.
Don't take offense at my question, either:
Why does the MAC even need a Temple football program?

75rjm Wrote:add Ball State and Buffalo to that list!
for anyone, especially a new team to the MAC to slam Ball State, they need to check the records! Ball State has 5 MAC Football Championships (we joined the conference in 1975) - with the most recent being 1996. We may have had a few down years, but we are on our way back. You don't even want to bring up basketball where the CARDS have a clear lead on MAC Tournment Titles, games won, etc.
I find it kind of laugable that Temple is to scared to move it's basketball team to a stronger B'Ball conference - I guess they like to have a chance to win their conference title every year!

I'm curious - which part of 4-8 and 2-9 tells you that you're on your way back?

All I am saying is you are looking at the teams recent records. If you go back to the early 70's Temple was a 7-4, 6-5, and 9-2 type team. In 1979 Temple went 10-2 went to the Garden State Bowl (a biggie) and beat University of California. So like Ball State in our pass we had some very good teams. Going forward I wish that the MAC teams would give Temple a wait and see benefit. I think that we will suprise most of you.

I thought Mother Miami had the all-time lead in BBall MAC championships, at what? 22 or 23.... hmm, I need to stop by Millett and count again.
Temple might be able to be a middle of the road MAC team. I also thought that they included priority scheduling opportunities with the other Temple programs, such as BBall. (Where did I hear that Temple might become a Full-MAC member in like 5-6 years?)
OH, and if Kent is Kirstie Alley, and Temple is Rosie.... Miami is Jessica Simpson!(She is married to a Miamian. )

Temple football sucks and has sucked for many many years. It must be noted Rutgers is still a member of the Big East, after being voted as the 13 worst team in the late 90's by ESPN. Enough said.
North Philly is one of the most violent parts of the country. Your basketball is mid MAC material at best.
That is why the MAC mucked up.

While I find smack talk from Temple fans probably as amusing as you do, you are aware that Temple does not play their home games on or near campus, but rather in the brand-new NFL facility on the other side of town, or previously in the historic Ivy League venue along the Schuykill River on the Penn campus, yes?
And that Temple's Liacouras Center is one of the nicest on-campus college basketball facilities in the nation? Or that the campus is not in anywhere near as dangerous of an area as you claim?
A better question: have you ever been to Philly? Or you just content to spew generalizations from some random Sun Belt locale?

I grew up in the Philly suburbs. Still have family in the area. Visit the area twice a year. I know the city very well but thank you for your insights
Temple C.C. played at the vet before the Linc. Played one or two years at Franklinn Field. I saw the Hardin years and beyond. Randy Grossman ( Temple TE and Steelers TE lived close to me as did John Cappaletti, Penn State great). The Liacourous Center self named by its own president is nice, although for its time McGonigle hall wasn't bad ( played there as a youth). The location is not Disney World. Its a bad area. If you are content w/Temple as a football only member, fine. But if you are going to add other sports than you have to go into the warzone of North Philly. Times have changed. Check a UCR book for further info..
p.s. I didn't realize you couldn't be from a remote sun belt area to post. Does that limit are fellow texans, as well ?
