I agree. Rubio/Tafoya for 2028. The next two years are going to be a mess in Europe, and we will need someone with foreign policy experience. The Democrats have none. We are seeing the results of what the Democrats want here in Europe. Once you start giving the citizenry everything they want more. It is never enough. Currently no one is working over there. They want government to "provide" everything, but no one works to pay into the system. Notice they aren't rioting for lower taxes. Just more free stuff. France is broke, and we aren't coming over to help them this time.

RE: 2028 Presidential Elections open thread
Vance made the completely correct statement and showed the actual path forward for the GOP winning in 2028 with his tweet response to the election results. His 4 points were

1. End the War
2. Focus on cost of living/inflation
3. Put America first
4. Change our relationship to Israel

What's funny about this is rhetorically this is the exact same positioning that everyone's favorite member of the Muslim Brotherhood AES (obvious sarcasm this this board struggles to understand that) ran and won on (minus Medicare for all of course). Vance has actually always concerned me the most as a leftist. This posturing in a general election IMO would be a nightmare to combat for the Dem party, especially if they nominated someone like a Josh Shapiro who he could massively outflank on positioning towards Israel. People like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, who have their own independent platforms and get a lot of direct feedback from their audiences, read the room early and turned on Trump most specifically over the war in Iran and both became extremely anti-Israel on the right. They saw that no one organically supports this war and it's a super majority position among everyone but the demographics of this specific message board (boomer republicans) to drastically change our posture towards Israel. I think they are going to try to lend the creditability they earned by being correct first on the right to Vance in the 2028 GOP primary and general election if he can get there.

You are referencing two people who share a bed with Alex Jones regarding conspiracies. Tucker Carlson is obsessed with being anti Israel and pro Putin. Same is true with Candace Owens.

Personally, I think the strongest ticket is a Rubio/Desantis. JD Vance single handedly sabotaged the war in Iran. When he forced the negotiation with the MOU, which was pissed on by Iran, he paused the fighting and put more money in their pockets. Had Trump persisted, the war very well could have been finished this past Summer, with lower gas prices and a new regime in Iran. Obviously, we will never know.

IMHO Marco and JD are way too close to this current MAGA admin. to pull swaths of indy's and latinos back across the aisle. You'd have better luck with DeSantis again (lol) or a fresh face. Both JD and Marco will pretend they held Trump back from doing even bigger actions and I don't think the American electorate will believe that.

I'm referencing 2 people I hate, think are rabid antisemites, and think are disgusting people overall. However, no one but boomer republicans f*ck with Israel anymore. As someone who wants nothing to do with another GOP president I hope you go with that ticket and the exact same posture towards Israel. Go for it.

Agree on Vance, disagree on Rubio. Rubio can easily pivot and claim that his time as SOS was a great opportunity to minimize damage from Trump - more specifically "it could have been worse without me there". Rubio is very astute when it comes to how to get things done and how to think quickly on his feet.

Vance said the reason for the loss was because of the "Iran War". That is not correct. The reason was the MoU and the cease fire, which he constructed. The "war" was going smoothly, the MoU is the reason it was lengthened.

There was no plan to put boots on the ground. That's what was missing if the war was to be ended relatively quickly. Trump strongly implied it but backed out...a bluff to get a deal? Likely. TACO - whether you agree with it or not - is an accurate description here. He FUBARed the handling of the Iran war.

"Put America First" is lip service..... The statement is at least.

Everyone knows what that is when they see it, stop saying it and just do things that show it and people will respond in kind.

IMO the R's have 100% no shot at the oval in 2028 - at least as of right now. The Dem's could be their own worst enemy over the next two years however. I said this as far back as 2020 when the Campaigning between Biden and Trump was going on..... first, stop giving Trump oxygen.

Every single one of these D's ran on "Not Trump", "reverse Trump Policies", "I'm fighting Trump". Fine.... easy winning message. But, just like "Put America first"..... STFU and actually do it, stop talking about it and actually just do those things... Everyone will know it when they see... Give them something to see.

All but ignore Trump and just let him continue to sky-scream - WGAF about the ball room, let that consume his time while you actually do things that matter... and that does not mean Impeach everything in sight.

It really is simple, but it means the asshats actually have to do some work .... so we will see if they can pull that off.

Now, if they decide to try to go scorched earth and only focus on Trump the person Trump instead, they will lose the Indy's again in short order. Trump is now a lame duck... leave him that way and treat him that way and the D's absolutely CRUSH the 2028 elections. Crush his policies, not him... that accomplishes NOTHING.

They will not do that, the morons in charge - Jeffries etc.... will not allow that.

Vance, Rubio, DeSantis... I'd be happy with any of the 3.

Any of them is better than anything the left can put out there.

The Democrats choosing leadership will be like cats fighting in a burlap sack. The radicals are now the mainstream in their party. They won't do anything but attack the Executive Branch. They never get anything done that benefits Americans. They only do things that secure more power for themselves. We've seen this movie before. Trump will dog them for the next two years.

I likely will not vote for either the Dem or Republican nominee in 2028. But I like the thought of Rubio as president. And Tefoya as his VP ... intriguing. Though she has no experience in governing, she's sharp, thoughtful and likable.

No, thank goodness not. Donalds should be miles better than she would have been. But DeSantis did float the idea of his wife taking over his chair for him with a straight face. It's not his goshdang chair in the first place. And that kid of attitude is the very problem with these entitled elite types. That and his Yaley background plus the RINO Bushes and Rove lining up behind him heavily before Trump trounced him and forced him to drop out will always give one pause. Running Florida is not running the US. He changed after he lost to Trump. Was it authentic or tactical? We'll see. Trust but verify.

You, GoodOwl, are a first-rate poster from an analytical standpoint. And in this post, you have surgically illustrated why the Republicans are in such a political fix.

Ron DeSantis is far from perfect. I think that his reason for losing in the 2024 primaries came down entirely due to the Mar-a-Lago raid, and Republicans rallying around the president in the wake of that kind of gov’t abuse. But there is no doubt that DeSantis was a less-than-stellar candidate. As effective as he is at governance, he lacks charisma.

Donald Trump oozes charisma. But that is about it. And this midterm devastation, in my view, is 100% on him.

Here’s the problem: if Republicans are going to repeat the mistake of requiring perfection in every candidate other than the anointed Trump successor (for whom every imperfection will be overlooked or dismissed as some kind of 4-dimensional brilliance), then Republicans are never going to win another national election.

Ron DeSantis is not perfect. But not one of the bold-printed criticisms of him in your quoted post is a reason to write him off in 2028.

Well, thank you AM. I'm open to voting DeSantis this go-round. Last time he was the inferior candidate. I will always be suspect of him, and watch him closely for the reasons you bolded in my post above. But if he can behave and do what he's acting like now in the future, I'll overlook those bolded areas of concern above. DeSantis came out of the midterms talking a good game. Let's see how he handles himself and who runs against him for the nomination.

I also don't mind Rubio, but his ties to Trump admin might be too problematic with an electorate that has clearly let their short-term emotions override their sensible thinking. Anyone who believes that the very Dems who caused the sky-high prices and inflation by their idiotic an Un-American policies will significantly lower costs for American citizens has a severe mental problem.

No, the Iran war didn't help, but WWII was tough and we successfully pulled together and defeated that generational enemy, then came home and enjoyed the victory until the Dems f-ed it up with all the social spending nonsense and changes to immigration laws of the 60's that directly led to today's mess. Dems are still Evil while Republicans proved themselves too stupid to work together to get things done when they can. Watch the leftover RINOs cooperate with the Dems to screw the country further the next 2 years.

Trump is basically done, but Dems will run against him anyway for the next 8 or more years because they have nothing but hatred and distraction to offer while Dems seize power and make American's lives much worse again....Mark it.
