NSBR: Alabama(the state) looking into restarting JuCo football
They have commissioned a report on the possibility of restarting JuCo football. It was due yesterday, Nov 1st. So far I haven’t seen any results of the report.

I was wondering the other day what happened to the proposal. Maybe we’ll see something drop after the elections.

I think this would be a good thing. I'm sure there are a bunch of kids from Alabama who get overlooked and if we expand their post-High School opportunities then it likely benefits all of the football universities in Alabama in a new era where they can have 3 years of football post-JuCo with the 5 in 5 deal.

This would be a very good thing for Troy, UAB, South Alabama, Jax State, and even Southern Miss.

Tubby says he wants to cut government waste if he wins. This sounds like a lot of waste to me.

JuCo football wouldn’t have the same budget like a 4 year college, closer to what a high school budget. All games would be in state, except maybe one or two in Mississippi. It would be seen as a JuCo student recruitment/retention program. Many JuCo is this state are starting to look more like 4 year schools, increase student housing and increased “college experience”.

There are a lot of kids in this state that are good football players, just undersized or underrecruited. This would give kids a chance to go to school, especially trade programs, that they might not otherwise have an opportunity.

I was told JUCO football in Alabama would not happen by a very good source back when this story was first reported.

Sounds good to me if it happens. We already recruit Mississippi and Texas jucos, might as well add another nearby state into the mix

Alabama has 6 FBS teams. They don't need a JUCO.

Let’s not cuts us short, Alabama does have 6 FBS, but also has 4 FCS teams, 3 DII, 1 DIII and an NAIA team. A total of 15 college football teams. But I can tell you from experience that there are at least 2 kids from every high school that graduates every year that is capable of playing at the next level, but have no way out of whatever little town they live in. Problem is, like so many schools trying to grow a fan base right now, 20 years ago you could have gotten fan support for a JuCo team in whatever town they are located, but with every game, at every level now being findable on tv, the only people that will attend the games are parents, recruits and maybe a dozen students. It’s just the times we live in, unfortunately.
