Unless a coach goes undefeated, and even then, they'll always be critics.
PFT is the modern shock sports radio host. Some of what he says is just for attention.
I absolutely agree that what we saw in certain clock situations against Troy is inexcusable for an 8th yr HC at this level. The situational game management was atrocious.
It was. But at what point do we hold the players accountable? I mean, come on. 5 freaking turnovers. And despite all the ways we kept them in the game, it still took OT to beat us.
Sure, look at what went wrong in OT. But for the love of god, look at all the ways the players didn't execute. Why do they get a pass because Napier had poor clock management. The clock management shouldn't have even played into it.

Folks should go watch BN last 2 pressers (post game and this week).
He clearly understands the root issues and is working to clean things up. This is a new staff with a lot of new players this year.
He covered turnovers, penalties, clock management, etc. I’m confident it’s all being addressed.
We’ve gotten to a point where people are expecting perfection in year 1 of a rebuild, and that’s just not realistic. If we see the same issues every game or continuing into next year, then the gripes are legit.

Yeah, we tend to forget that piece of everything, which is huge.
New staff and mostly players. Most schools in the country would have growing pains. We've been VERY lucky to do what we've done so far.
And how many teams would die to have the kind of season we've had? Most of the Sun Belt would certainly take it, that's for sure. And yet this is considered a down year for us.

Closest comparison would be Tulane.
They are sitting at 4-4 this season and had a tight game versus Charlotte - our fans would be losing their minds lol.

I did not think Tulane made a good decision with their new coach. I'm not surprised by their record.

A handful G6s lost coaches to higher paying jobs and are on track to match last year's success and/or JMU this year. Most of those losses were in first few weeks or to P4s.
- JMU 7-2. Have to win out to match last year's 12-2. Lost game 8 and 9.
- Memphis 7-2. Will likely beat last year's 8-5. Lost game 3 (to Boise) and 7.
- North Texas 6-2. Have to win out to match last year's 12-2. Lost game 1 and 3 (to IU).
- USF 6-2. TBD if match last year's 9-4. Lost game 5 and 6.
- Toledo 6-2. TBD if match last year's 9-4. Lost game 1 (Mich St) and 6.
- Ohio is 6-2. TBD if match last year's 9-4. Lost game 1 (Nebraska) and 3. Ohio can have an asterisk since they hired DC as HC.
Fewer teams have off after their HC was poached (and I'd put an asterisk on Wash St and Missouri St.).
- Tulane 4-4
- USM 3-5
- Wash St 1-8 (third HC in 3 years)
- Missouri St. 3-5 (last year was first in FBS)

RE: Tonight's Loss falls on...
I was thinking on the way home last night 12-2 would still be a great year. That would of exceeded my preseason expectations. Probably the odds are against it, but it's still possible. Seems like all the top G6 contenders from last year are not in the conversation this year.
A three loss season would be meh, but still keeps us at a decent level.
My excitement was high, and still growing before ASU. "To me" the CFP was at least 5, and maybe 10 times more exciting than 12-2 team this year. ASU was a very painful loss. To be that painful it means we're playing at a high level. I was following all the top G6s and the top 20-30 schools. Not doing that anymore. The podcasts are not quite as interesting. "To me" the loss to Troy was not nearly as painful since the CFP was not on the table.
The pain has diminished and my new challenging goal is 12-2. It would be nice to leave the Sunbelt after winning the last 2 SBCs.

RE: Tonight's Loss falls on...
You can't just look at Napier's record of 8-2 and be like "considering he started from scratch in his first season that is an amazing job" without looking at those 2 losses. It's not just that JMU lost, it's HOW they lost.
Although it's unfair to judge Napier just on the loses, PFT was correct in his assessment about the scale of how terrible the coaching and decisions in those games were, especially the Troy game. I think those were glimpses into what Florida fans have complained about (yes there were so many other issues going on at Florida, many of which had nothing to do with Napier) but I could see some very concerning red flags of a coach losing control and not adjusting.
Hope it's just a blip and a wake up call, and not "terminal" like PFT says. So much potential here for the program, fingers crossed cause this is a very important time in JMU's progression that can't be trashed by underachieving.
