Tonight's Loss falls on... - hburg - 10-29-2026 10:57 PM

Mostly the players....
Some on the coaches
But the players get the bulk of the blame with poor execution and turnovers.
Coaches get the blame for poor play calling.

Kudos to Troy, they made plays and took advantage.

This is on the coaches first and foremost. To leave Coleman out there as long as they did was utter malpractice, and the game management at the end of regulation was impossibly, IMPOSSIBLY bad. I could list 10 other reasons but these come to top of mind for me.

I'm with H'Burg on this one. Coaches didn't fumble or throw the INTs. By the way, it was Evan's who threw the Pick 6 this week.

Loss is on the offense. 5 turnovers and the offense completely disappeared about 1/2 way through the second quarter. Do not know why that has happened for 2 straight games now but it needs to be fixed

Which made the defense tires opening up big holes for Troy's offense.

Coleman’s 15 min of fame are officially spent.

2QB system. It's time for it to go.

Under a 1QB system:
-At Appalachian Community College, JC never runs a trick play to start OT after Cam confidently led the team to tie the game.
-Tonight, Cam continues the first drive in OT after getting a first down, and we don't stall out and miss a 4th down. We likely score, probably a TD.

I'm not saying it needs to be Cam fulltime either. Could be JC. Choose one. It's the constant switching that's costing us about 25 yards/game in procedure penalties, and countless unseen yards in players and qb not being on the same page during plays.

Coaches didn't throw 3 INTs nor fumble twice. Coaches didn't draw 3 flags on one defensive series. We can question some of the play calls but even the perfect play call will be ruined when a WR fumbles 30 yards downfield.

Coaching. I just read in the DNR that Coach Napier said they ran the ball at the end of regulation because they only needed to get to the 33 yard line to be in field goal range. That is ridiculous. When has our kicker ever made a 50 yard FG? He kicks his PAT’s so low I am surprised when they are good.

The 23 yard line should have been the target. Not the 33.

Undisciplined penalties have not been corrected all year.

And to give up a third and 15, or whatever it was, from the 3 with an injured back up QB in for one snap was the most frustrating play of the game for me. That guy was not throwing from his own end zone and we still gave it up.

Just working backwards from what I remember
1. Evan's missed seeing a wide open TE to convert on 3rd down in ot
2. Last drive of regulation on the second run - Coleman misread the RPO like he typically does and rb gets stuffed meanwhile if he kept it, there's green grass for 15 yards putting us into FG range
3. Harrison fumbles on our own 25 - 3 plays later Troy scores. Next drive throws a pick
4. Evans opens the half with a pick 6
5. Mikey scott fumbles after a 40 yard catch and run down to their 25

Even with the 2 qb system, playcalling, penalties whatever - if any one of those things goes differently jmu wins the game. This is not saying there is no blame on the coaches this is saying that at a certain point you need to expect D1 players to execute basic football tasks

Throwing quick outs and we would’ve gotten to the 23 easily, the defense was giving us those throws, but running the ball made it easy on their D. Also seemed we reached a point in the game where we weren’t going to Mo for any kicks other than an XP, so I definitely didn’t believe he was hoping to get him out there from 50.

Exactly! Plenty of blame for the coaches in this game, but people want to blame them when the players fail to execute the fundamentals.

This staff turtles. They can't make adjustments when the plan starts to fail.

I have YET to see a player sat down after a dumb penalty. Yet to see a player ride the pine after a fumble or poor INTs.

Players don't execute for a few reasons. First, they simply don't have the ability or are injured/hurt. Second, they aren't prepared. Finally, they aren't held accountable.

This staff has been exposed on the latter two.

RE: Tonight's Loss falls on... - hburg - 10-30-2026 07:37 AM

I think injuries may be playing a bigger part than most think. Also, student leaving well before halftime and being almost empty with during a tied game is inexcusable.

RE: Tonight's Loss falls on... - chicagoduke - 10-30-2026 07:47 AM

100% of responsibility falls on former Virginia Governor Glen Younkin. Hear me out....

Governor Younkin appointed all of the members of the BOV that selected President Jim Schmidt.
Jim Schmidt chose to retain Matt Roan when he became president.
Matt Roan (and Jim Schmidt) chose Billy Napier as Head Coach.
Billy Napier assembled the staff and recruited the players.
Napier and his staff coached the players and called the plays.
The players executed the plays (and made the mistakes) based on what was called and how they were coached.

Clear as day to me. If there's anyone to be mad at, it's Younkin.

I completely agree. One of my pet peeves ... undisciplined. completely fixable.

add offensive lines inability to open running holes or hold a stable pocket. That might not be fixable.
