Geographically the MAC, Sunbelt, and CUSA already make sense.
The more important alignment is budgets and institutional likemindedness.
CUSA is the only one of the 3 with a program in Texas. IMO, Tarleton should be invited by tomorrow. Maybe SFA too. You should always take the absolute best partners available. EKU shouldn't be taken only because of proximity.
SFA does not want to be FBS

better travel destination, ( Grand Canyon, Zion, Vegas, Seattle, Skiing in NM/Col) better cultural fit, generates more excitement amping the fan base to be in a western conference than an eastern one. At least for Tarleton...and Tx State too you will soon find out. I mean for Sam Houston I get it, East Texas is culturally aking to the South east US. Pine trees and swamps and that is fine for them. But that is not us, Catus and Mesquite trees are more our vibe. I do not travel east of I-35 Unless it is absulutely mandatory and usually hate every second of it. I have no interest in willingly going to Mississippi, Alabama Kentucky, Tennessee or Georgia etc and none of those teams in the G6 does anything for me. I assure you Tx State will see bigger crowds in San Marcos facing C olorado St Washington St and Oregon St than they ever did versus Arkansas St Georgia St or University of Louisiana.

For me, CUSA, MWC and the SBC are our possibilities, and I have no idea where we stand with any of them. It is a possibility we don’t get an invite, but I believe this will be the only way we stay FCS.
If we only receive one invitation, we will take it.
Personally, I think our best current and future place to grow, is the Mountain West. However, I would have no issue if we join CUSA and get the opportunity to compete against our old buddy and best friend Sammy.
I think we will make a great addition to whichever FBS conference invites us, if one does.

EKU, Central Arkansas, and Austin Peay all got left in the dust when Jax State killed the ASUN. I think that was their last chance when they thought the whole conference was going to be lifted to FBS.

Sounds like if Tarlyton ever makes it in, they'll immediately be looking to move elsewhere.
Can a conference put a bigger GOR on a single team ?

I think there's some validity to this. (And remember, Kenny was part of this too.)
When ASUN Football was launched, not only was there hope that the whole conference could magically be granted FBS status, but the conference itself was conceived explicitly to include schools who were making a COMMITMENT to football.
Since then, they've struggled just to stay mildly relevant in FCS.
They were either banking on an easy shortcut to FBS, or JSU and Kenny robbed them of their will to live. Or both:
RECORDS SINCE 2023:
Peay - 25-18 (.581) - FCS Playoffs 1st Round (2023)
EKU - 20-22 (.476) - FCS Playoffs 1st Round (2024)
UCA - 18-23 (.439)
UNA - 12-29 (.293)

Only takes one then the offers would follow being afraid of being left behind.

Central Arkansas was in massive debt at the time and had a bit of a scandal going on at the University Level. The idea that they were going to somehow figure out how to move to FBS was laughable.

I think the SBC is out of the Texas game unless we had 2 willing to move (Or the SBC and CUSA merged). The league grumbled for 3 straight years about having to travel to Texas State in Olympic Sports yearly with no other school within a 7 hour drive to partner with.

Vegas is cool, but GC and to a lesser extent, Zion, aren't THAT close and would take a good amount of time to enjoy. Not something you go pop over to for an hour and then drive back to Vegas. I guess if you're making a 4+ day trip of it then alright, but I might be in the minority here but I know for me these kind of things would just a Fri-Sun trip, fly in Fri morning, fly out Sunday. NIU would be a cool excuse to see Chicago though. Same for Nevada and Tahoe.
Not sure how good skiiing is during football season. Maybe if the games near skiing locales are late in the season. How is Seattle in play here?
Why are you trying to sell me on something we've already done? I think the PAC move was great for us. I just don't see the MWC pros outweighing the cons for y'all compared to CUSA. I really don't think that many of the MWC schools would move the needle like you think they would. Air Force would for sure, idk about the rest.

What is it about many Texas posters with the ego?
Some SH fans are also like this.
Hopefully we lose no one and CUSA stays at TEN schools.

Go and read the original Tarleton joins the WAC thread from the beginning. That will answer your question. We got competitive quickly in the WAC and we’ll do the same in FBS. And we’d have more than 1500 fans if we played a football game at 7 am on a Tuesday.

I never believed the whole UAC was going to move up as a group. Like Red told Andy in Shawshank, it was a ****** pipe dream. So unless you have a rock hammer hidden in your Bible and a movie poster you’re stuck where you are for now. The James Madison move might be what leads to your escape but don’t count your chickens until they’re hatched.
I personally don’t care about where our opponents are located. If I want to see the Grand Canyon I can do that. No great desire to go to Vegas and I have been to Seattle. We have a member in New Mexico as well if you’re into skiing.
We have Atlanta and Nashville markets covered. Those are big cities with things to do.
If I make a road trip I am there to see a game. I don’t care about sightseeing. I’m not on vacation. I drove to Kennesaw last week and not once did I consider doing anything other than watch the game and go home.

In about 4 days, this type decision would make Arkansas State about $10 million. Go right ahead. I like cash.

I mean I'm all for making a vacation out of things but National Parks are deserving of their own trips. Never been to Zion but one could spend a 3 days in Yellowstone and just barely scratch the surface. AI recommends 3-5 days for Zion. That'd be a whole separate trip for me.

For me, side trips are almost always part of a sports roadtrip.
We went to NMSU basketball the last year they were in the WAC and made a side trip to Guadalupe National Park.
Made a trip for basketball at Utah Tech and Southern Utah a couple of years ago with a side trip to the Grand Canyon. Also saw a couple of shows in Vegas.
Went to Army last year and visited Cooperstown for the Baseball HOF.
Traveled to Bowling Green Ohio in September, visited Canton for the Pro Football HOF and spent some time in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Sports trips with side excursions are a great way to see America.

RE: Putting egos aside
plenty of things to do in CUSA areas other than Las Cruces, as well (I, too, take side trips)
Corvette Museum
Mammoth Cave
Nashville, the supposed "it" city right now
Civil War National Battlefield & Museum in Murfreesboro (one of bloodiest battles)
Jack Daniels Distillery
Miami/Key West -- cheap airline tickets into Miami
Shenandoah National Park
Atlanta
beautiful North Georgia Appalachians
Houston
Little River Canyon
There are cool places to see and do pretty much everywhere you go, from nature, to large cities, etc. You just have to do your homework.
For instance, I really enjoyed Hot Springs, AR, when we were in the Sun Belt.
