Possible Plague Crisis in Siberia: Five Hospitals Placed Under Quarantine After Lab T
Quote:A 28-year-old technician at Russia’s Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute is dead, nearly 200 people are under medical observation, and five hospitals in the region have been reportedly slammed shut for quarantine, while the Kremlin’s health agency insists this is nothing but “pneumonia of unknown origin.”

The Moscow Times identified the dead woman as Darya Shipilova, a laboratory worker at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute of Siberia and the Far East.

She was hospitalized in Shelekhov on September 29 with severe pneumonia, placed on a ventilator, and died on October 1, overnight into October 2, by some accounts.

The account that set off the alarm: Shipilova told medical staff she had accidentally broken a test tube of live Yersinia pestis, the bacterium that causes plague, while handling samples on September 25. That is four days before she was admitted, DW reported.

Meduza, citing regional media, reported both that version and a competing claim that she fell ill after a trip. Neither has been officially confirmed.

Alexei Tsydenov, head of neighboring Buryatia, went further than Irkutsk officials were willing to go. He publicly said the woman had died of plague, then edited the post to say she “may have” died of it.

Irkutsk’s own governor, Igor Kobzev, would only call it a “particularly dangerous infection” and convene an emergency anti-epidemic commission.

On October 4, Russia’s consumer watchdog Rospotrebnadzor denied she died of plague at all. The official line, reported by bne IntelliNews and CNN: “pneumonia of unknown etiology.”

A commission claimed no accident involving pathogenic microorganisms had occurred at the institute. Contacts, officials said, were testing negative and showed no symptoms.

According to Charter97’s report citing the regional outlet People of Baikal, three Irkutsk city hospitals, Hospitals No. 1, No. 3, and No. 10, along with the Ivanomatreninskaya Children’s Hospital and a maternity hospital were reportedly placed under quarantine.

Those reports have not been independently confirmed by Russia’s federal health authorities, and officials have offered conflicting accounts of what exactly killed Shipilova.

Meanwhile, workers at the massive Irkutsk Aluminum Plant in Shelekhov have been ordered to wear masks as a precaution.

CNN reported that plant director Artem Fominikh acknowledged that “many rumors and conflicting reports” were circulating and confirmed the mask requirement.

At least 197 people who may have crossed paths with Shipilova were identified. About 189 of them were hospitalized for observation, 114 in one facility, 63 in another, 12 at the anti-plague institute itself, according to figures carried by The Moscow Times, REN TV, and bne IntelliNews. As of the latest official statements, no secondary cases have been confirmed.

Pneumonic plague is the form that matters. It is the only form that spreads person to person, through respiratory droplets. The CDC says the incubation period after inhalation can be as short as one day.

The World Health Organization puts the usual window at one to seven days. Untreated, it is frequently fatal, and the clock for antibiotics is measured in hours, not days. A September 25 broken vial and a September 29 collapse sit squarely inside that window.

Shelekhov is not a village. It is an industrial town built around the Irkutsk Aluminium Plant, a Rusal facility with more than 2,000 workers. ]

Plant director Artyom Fominykh ordered a mask protocol and told employees, in a Telegram post reported by bne IntelliNews and The Moscow Times: “God protects the cautious.” He urged anyone with symptoms to get medical help immediately — while admitting the town was awash in contradictory reports.

A nearby town administration briefly told residents to avoid Shelekhov, then deleted the post. Public events in Irkutsk were canceled.

I don’t know if it’s the plague we know or not, but thawing permafrost has released all sorts of ancient, nasty things in parts of Russia over the last decade.

They can get into wild or domesticated animals and then start working their way thru different systems.

https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2023/11/0...ing-a82985

The anthrax outbreak in 2016 killed thousands of animals and even 1 person. It if hadn’t happened in an extremely remote area, anything could have happened.

There was a fiction book I read sometime last year with the premise of Russian scientists discovering some deadly pathogen in a mammoth that was exposed in the Siberian Permafrost. They begin to try to weaponize in two ways. As anthrax and as a nastier black plague. They end up destroying most of an entire city. The thing was they had decided to study it in a city that was not medically equip for the types of experiments they were performing. If they had taken the pathogen to their version of the CDC or USAMRID they would've successfully created new bioweapons.

Something Is Very Wrong With Russia's 'Plague' Story — and the White House Is Watching

Quote:☣️Russia’s new denial—*no plague detected; no laboratory accident; pneumonia is of unknown etiology; situation is stable*—is impossible to square w/its initial emergency response, which included FSB.

Further, Rospotrebnadzor chief (equivalent of HHS + CDC +/- DHS) initially flew to Irkutsk to convene an extraordinary anti-epidemic commission over a “particularly dangerous infectious disease,” reported to be pneumonic plague.

I watched an HBO miniseries that showed them doing the same thing with another event… maybe about a nuclear reactor exploding or something… I’m sure everything’s fine.

Geez. Someone died from plague in the US last year. The plague is endemic. I do think it highlights that lab transmission is definitely a thing, and we can't pretend it doesn't occur.

Why would any nation create a plague where there is no antidote? Wouldn't it kill their population too? That is like cutting your nose to spite it or however that saying goes.

Isn't the word plagues in the last days in the Bible? Just axing.

^^^^This^^^^.

Which is why this is concerning as regular plague can be beat with anti-biotics. The concern is that a test tube lab plague might be modified in a way that makes it more contagious or resistant to antibiotics.

Here We Go Again: The WHO Issues Statement About 'Russia Plague' After Lab Outbreak

Quote:It seems like only yesterday that the American people were locked in a life-and-death battle over the global outbreak of COVID-19.

At the same time, freedom-loving Americans had to fight their own government to maintain any shred of freedom in a country that went crazy over lockdowns, masks, and jab mandates.

This was amid endless lies and misleading guidance dished out by paternalistic "experts" who believed that it was their duty to deceive us for our own good.

Now, we have a mysterious outbreak in Russia that is being traced to a laboratory leak, and the U.S. government is demanding transparency. You can't make this stuff up.

RedState's Teri Christoph earlier noted that "something is very wrong" with Russia's plague story.

"Secretary of State Marco Rubio demands transparency from Moscow following reports of a plague-related death coming from a lab outbreak in Russia," Fox News reported.

"Rubio warned that it would be 'reckless' to speculate without complete data, while urging Russian officials to share critical information with the global community," the report added.

"Any time you hear that there's some disease that infected someone in a lab anywhere in the world, you're going to be concerned about it," he said, adding, "I think it's incumbent upon Russia to obviously share more information with the world. That's what they should do."

GAVI, the vaccine alliance (quick to pounce on a great advertisement for its products, no doubt), gave the basic overview of what was said to have happened.

Conflicting information about the death of a lab worker at a Russian plague research institute has fuelled fears about the possibility of pneumonic plague spreading.

Nearly 200 people are in quarantine in Siberia after 28-year-old Darya Shipilova fell ill at work and later died on October 2.

The exact circumstances of her death are unknown. A senior Russian official posted on social media last week that Shipilova “had died from the plague” – before editing the post to add “possibly”. Russia’s health watchdog has since stated she died from “pneumonia of unknown etiology”.

Local media reports suggested she was infected following an accident at the lab where she worked, the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute of Siberia and the Far East. But these have not been confirmed.

The European Commission, as if we had any doubt they would jump on the chance to continue their "great reset," pounced on the news.

“We are aware of the reports concerning the laboratory incident in Russia, seemingly involving a pathogen-causing plague,” European Commission spokesperson Eva Hrncirova told reporters. “We are in touch with our experts from [the] European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, and we monitor very closely what is going on.”

The World Health Organization is also involved, as should be expected.

“WHO is in contact with the Russian health authorities to verify the event, its circumstances, the laboratory tests underway, and their results, the rationale for contact-tracing and the health status of contacts, as well as any potential international public health implication,” a WHO spokesperson told Politico.

“Based on unofficial information available, the public health risk to the general population appears to be low,” the spokesperson added.

The disease considered to be a risk to the public is being described as the "pneumonic plague," a form of a highly contagious illness spread by bacteria such as Yersinia pestis, usually found in mammals and their fleas.

Rubio stated that the U.S. government knew "whatever the Russians have provided," adding, "I don’t think its cause for alarm but it is cause for focus and cause for just keeping an eye on it and we’re doing that."

On Tuesday, the secretary of state also updated the public about the situation in Saudi Arabia, as covered by RedState's Nick Arama.

"Saudi Arabia has now confirmed that there have been attacks on two of the country's airports," he reported. The attacks reportedly caused at least three minor injuries.

The graver threat to the international order, however, is a potential plague outbreak traced to a laboratory.

Transparency is also what the American people wanted from their government during the Wuhan laboratory incident. It is also eerily similar to the Chinese communist government's refusal to be forthright about the lab incident, which appears to be justified in hindsight by the so-called "free world's" inability to hold it accountable.

Why all of the demands for transparency from the Russian government now? It's understandable in light of what happened during COVID-19, but we're still waiting for transparency from the Chinese government.

The bottom line in all of this is that these pathogens laboratories are now highly suspected of being "dual use" cutouts for biological warfare. While the scientists that work in these labs can claim they are only doing "gain of function" research to prepare us for the next global pandemic, they are also at high risk of accidentally causing the next global pandemic. And conveniently, at election time, one might add.
