I don't know about that. They get a leftist media enema repeatedly every day. Why should they be full of anything?

I was talking about everybody, not one side or the other. We're all FOS, to some extent. Nobody knows everything, nobody has a lock on the right opinion, so all this is just loud clatter proving absolutely nothing. I simply enjoy the back and forth.

That's not how I see it. Right or wrong on either side the anti has been raised and the future is what is at stake. And it's happening in real time now. When caught between two extremes their gravity evaporates the middle ground. It will by it's nature involve us all. If nothing else should have made the extremes palpable to you the last 10 years should have. There was nothing normal or business as usual about them for D.C. or the nation. The divide is real and growing.

We have the advantage of being retired and nearer the end than even the middle. But both of us have too much to risk and it's in terms of our children's and grandchildren's and now greatgrandchildren's lives. We can't pretend it's going away like everyone just pretended that public education pushing the victim agenda of Maoism would be dispelled by college, or life. Those who believe the ends justify the means exist on both sides and they are going to have their day.

The challenge may appear to be that of the next generation, but what it really is, is the unsettled business of our generation. As long as we draw breath we have an obligation.

Now I was joking with the post, but I'm sure as hell not joking about this.

And that is the fun of this board. Most of us can't discuss politics in our professional lives and hopefully our families and friends are of the same mindset as our own. This place allows debate with the opposing viewpoint.

The rules of this board are pretty damn simple and should easily be enforced.

1. You are expected to be civil.
Ok this one might be hard, but I think everyone knows there is a bit of $hit slinging going on in here.

2. You are expected to defend your position.
Other than a couple posters who link-dump I think most here probably do this to the point of wondering if they are psychotic

3. You are expected to focus on the debate, not the poster.
I don't think 90% of the board follows this rule so it probably should go

4. You are expected to make a good faith effort to interact with the community.
See my answer to #2

5. You are expected to use the report button if you have concerns with a post or comment.
No insight into if people actually report

6. Do not troll.
What does this actually mean

7. Do not use slurs or call people names.
The people who have been known to do this are largely gone. There are still some that throw out slurs, but not really directed at other posters. I think this is largely up to GTS on what he wants allowed posted on his site. I follow the rule of if I wouldn't say it to my boss, I won't say it on the internet where it is forever.

8. Do not discuss moderation issues in public.

9. Do not bring another user’s personal details into comments.
I think this should be the instantly bannable rule. Don't bring personal lives into the board unless a user does it themselves.

10. Do not spam the board with a bunch of highly similar topics.
See #2 and #4

See #2 and #4

As to the number of reported posts this forum is likely second only to the Memphis board. I've considered handing out spamming warnings for those who report 4 to 8 post at one time usually the same reporter and the same reported, or they may be reporting each other. Seldom is there a blatant violation, but when there are % warnings are given unless one of the posters hasn't had to be warned before and they get a verbal warning.

As to reply to the post and not direct an attack on the poster, it is the most violated here but it is also the most reported with few reports being of any substance. There are more than a few reported posts where the reporter is assuming they are the target but the post didn't mention them, and didn't make a statement clearly pointed at them.

Number 9 is a very dark gray area if names are not used to tag the one being talked about. If someone is being doxed banning would be in order in my opinion.

If a serious violation of AUP has occurred, racial slur, someone got doxed, a death threat was made against a poster or political figure, or anyone, a moderator, whether your mods are present or not has to un-approve the post, ban the user, and report it to the site progenitor who may report it to the authorities in the case of a threat.

Why? Well for threats it would be liability and the law. For the rest it would be to preserve the sponsors who keep this site free. They have rules that we must follow for them to continue to advertise here. The larger and more trafficked the forum the more important it is to stay on top of those. I moderate the SEC sub forum, which has little traffic. I moderate the CS/CR forum which is #1 in traffic. The Spin Room would be 2nd or 3rd depending upon whether it was an election year or not.

At least in the Spin Room you can use some language that would be forbidden in the CS/CR forum where things have to be kept PG13.

If a moderator's name is in blue they moderate only their assigned forum(s). If the moderator's name is in orange they have dedicated forums but also have the responsibility to handle any unmoderated area. We have lots of unmoderated areas where mods have been named but either are absent or simply don't moderate. That's why guys with orange names moderate the spin room. I decided if I had to I may as well post here and get to know the posters.

Moderation largely fails in the Spin Room because any moderator is seen as being for one side or the other. I'm thinking that is one reason there is a high burnout factor at play in this forum. Mods feel damned if the do and damned if they don't and both political spectrums are cliquish.

When I suggested that there should only be moderation here for violation of important AUP rules only I wasn't joking or being flippant. This board rejects most moderation and most moderators. If one comes in to toss a racist, or bigot of any kind, or someone making threats and leaves you to your own devices what do you get? You get exactly what you have most days here. So, if you reported major violations and came in prepared for ruff and tumble every day it would be better on moderators and better on you. I don't know how much productive and sane exchanges over matters facing this nation would take place, but how much of that happens now?

We set up the Buckley / Vidal room to have much stricter moderation and nobody much avails themselves of it. That tells me you want the bickering.

More than a handful here do just enjoy the bickering. But, many more actually have sane conversations. Anyone who has been here long enough knows which camp people fall into. I say let the bickering people have at it, they get some free therapy and GTS gets some ad views to pay for the place. As long as nobody is doing personal fouls (blatant racism, threats of violence against themselves or others, or other outright criminal conspiring) let it be.

And yet, 90% of the posters voted to have a duality of moderators. How do you think that will turn out? If reports are only for serious violations of AUP you don't need a dedicated moderator. Any Super Mod (orange names) or Administrator would see the reported post and handle it. It would be the best thing for this forum. But...look at the votes.

My point was really, I suspect most reporting is NOT for serious rules violations. More likely posters that get their feelings hurt.

I agree with all that, but I was coming just from a participatory standpoint, how it goes down on this board, not the bigger issues and the higher calling to protect what is our heritage.
