Went to Meijer yesterday afternoon...gas was $4.19. I decided to wait to fill up after a quick trip into the store. By the time I came out 20 minutes later, gas was now $4.99. 80 cent jump in one day.

Regardless, this is why I care not about average national price. Gas has been over $4/gallon locally several times before. This too shall pass.
Well, you may not care...and to me it not's a big deal because I can afford it which I assume you can also...but to many voters, they can't afford it and it is an issue to them come election time. And sure, it will pass...but with each one of these, it never gets back to where it was...always a little bit more.
The problem here is the solution has not been met yet. So it can't begin to pass until that happens. It is only going to keep getting worse as long as the strait is not back to close to where it was before the excursion.

we that can afford the number much lower than muh overtaxed 'average', don't give a fk ... we're patient whilst the blue states feel that bigger sting...

I filled up at $2.46 before the increases started. It is $3.59 at the same station around the corner from work. Don't drink 3 $7 coffees a month and it makes up the difference. Pretty simple. Also, I'm with Joe. It is the gas station owners' faults.

A better question would be. What will the price of gas be after the excursion?
An even betterer question would be how long till the excursion ends? Another not quite as better but still good question would be how long after the excursion ends will it take gas to get back to whatever the new equilibrium will be?

Hate to break this to you, but this forum does not contain anywhere near a valid representation of the average American voter. Not even close.
again, it's the last day of April ... but keep beating that drum ... it will only help when prices fall downstream...
what ewe're really afraid of, is once this happens and the courts continue to rule in favor of red going into the mids, then what?
that's ewer real problem w/o an out...
this smokeshow has just begun, bubby ... and ewe're smart enough to realize such...
Stink.. I didn't think Presidents affect the price of gas...
AGAIN, you lack some pretty basic reading comprehension skills. What you've consistently been told is that the day to day actions of any president don't effect the price of gas.
YES, starting a war...I mean excursion...which blocks a vital waterway transporting 20% of the global supply of oil for 2 months effects the price of gas.
You know this. Stop being obtuse.

Well, trumps own administration is calling for prices to remain elevated all through 2026 and into 2027.

Okay Riddler. And when is your glorious Orange Boy going to actually be in it to win it and put troops on the ground on those islands since boom that just magically solves everything? If it was so easy why hasn't the genius just done it? Oh yeah, because it's not actually the magical fix you think it is and just leaves American troops as sitting ducks to get killed in high numbers.
