RE: Miami, O
This Miami team reminds me of the 1976 Rutgers team that went undefeated during the regular season, playing pretty much a regional schedule. In those days there were no computer formulas, SOS, or power ratings. If you went undefeated, you were highly ranked. No one questioned your schedule. At the end of the season, Rutgers was ranked #3 behind undefeated Indiana and 23-1 Marquette, who hadn’t lost since the 3rd game of the season.
In the NCAA tournament, Rutgers had an easy path to the Final Four, beating Princeton, UConn, and Virginia Military. When they got to the Final Four, they lost decisively to Michigan by 16 and in the consolation game to UCLA by 14. I expect Miami to suffer the same fate when they come up against quality teams, but I don’t think they’ll have to wait until the Final Four for that to happen.

Yeah in the bracket from Tuesday, Dave had them getting Wisconsin and then Kansas in 1st 2 rounds. Reality check for sure.

Though I would strongly like to see Miami (O) do well in the tourney, I feel that a "reality check" is, indeed, looming.

Miami won again last night 69-67 - this time on a last second shot - to go 29-0. They beat Western Michigan (10-19, 4-12).

Miami pulled out a squeaker tonight by 2 points over Toledo. Their final game of the regular season will be against Ohio (15-5, 9-8) on the road.

Huge game against Ohio. If they lose that I think they need to win the conference tournament to get in. If they have two losses i think they're out.

Agree, T’Will. I honestly thought they were going to lose last night. Won by the skin of their teeth. It was harrowing going back & forth between that game & the Seton Hall @ Xavier game. Both were close games. I don’t get Peacock, so I was also checking updates on the St. John’s game. For a while it looked like two Pitinos were going to lose on the same night. I was surprised that game was so close.

I watched the St. John's game and really thought they were going to lose. Georgetown was hitting so many tough shots and St John's was ice cold. I was expecting Georgetown to have packed it in until the BET, but to their credit they played hard. I can't remember the exact circumstances, but there was one play where Cooley went ballistic over a bad call that led to a basket and free throw for St. john's that cut the Hoya lead to four. I agreed with Cooley, and that seemed to be a turning point that really switched the momentum. St John' is still really challenged shooting the ball. If an opposing team has good interior players and forces the Johnnies to make shots from the outside, they could be in real trouble.

Obviously posted the above in the wrong thread. Not sure how to move it, my mistake.

St. John's tops Georgetown 72-69.
Stat of note: The Red Storm notched 15 offensive rebounds to the Hoyas' seven.
Georgetown has now lost seven straight.
SJU is 15-1 in its last 16 games.

St. John’s routinely gets called for fewer fouls than their opponents and as a result normally shoots more FTs than their opponents. During the game, I noticed that this trend was reversed. Late in the game, though, a lot of foul calls started to go against Georgetown. By the end of the game, St. John’s had 4 more FT attempts than Georgetown, which is a smaller differential than usual for them.

Gtown definitely got a crap whistle. I couldn't complain though after we got quite the favorable whistle at home against Seton Hall 3 days earlier in what was also a very close game.

Oof. A loss to Akron and I think they were a lock to make it. They're still deserving but will the committee see it that way?

In the Big Reveal, they had Miami in even with 1 loss, but I don’t think that it would be to 8 or 9 seed in their conference tournament. So, they’re no guarantee at this point. I hope they take them.
