Swiss buckle under tariff - agree to invest in USA and lower barriers
The heavy burden of a 39% tariff severely harming the Swiss economy caused the Swiss government to reconsider their unfair trade practice with America.
In exchange for lowering the tariff to 15%, the “deal includes Swiss companies’ relocating manufacturing to the U.S., including in the pharmaceutical, gold smelting and other sectors. Companies would invest some $200 billion in the U.S. by the end of 2028, the Swiss government said. Switzerland will also lower import duties on a range of U.S. products, including industrial goods, fish and some agricultural imports.”

I admit I was highly skeptical of the way Trump employed tariffs, but it is working. Eventually the benefits will flow to the average American.
when the USD is 'it's a glorious sword' (not be confused with an ol' sex partner in the moment), it would be foolish to give away an empire like the brits, Ja?!
it's a tactical tool to achieve best method in trade ... nothing more, nothing less...
the semantics being thrust upon the masses are nothing more than ECON-psycho-babble bs...

The Dem’s new found respect for separation of powers, states rights,, and the Constitution in general is one of the most hilarious and hypocritical reversals I have seen lately.
They are upset, for once, the tactics they have used for generations to run roughshod over objections to their policies have been turned against them.
I use to tend toward libertarian philosophy, but the COVID era convinced me Dem’s must be politically fought tooth and nail with unrelenting vigor using the same tools and weapons they train on conservatives.
We don’t, or shouldn’t give presidents power they aren’t given in the constitution because we perceive they can or might do something good with it.
Again, Congress gave the Executive branch the ability to adjust tariffs while under FDR and later under JFK.
I hate using wikipedia, but i know this pointed me to the right site when I dug deeper:
Quote:The Act served as an institutional reform intended to authorize the president to negotiate with foreign nations to reduce tariffs in return for reciprocal reductions in tariffs in the United States up to 50%.[2]
Quote:The power to cut down expired in 1961, but in November, President Kennedy advocated a new tariff reduction negotiations, which would be called Kennedy Round, and in response, the new tariff reduction, the Trade Expansion Act of 1962,[18] was enacted, and the President was granted the power to reduce tariffs by June 30, 1967.
From then on, rounds and free trade area negotiations in GATT (later WTO) included the negotiating powers of non-tariff measures in the respective legislation, such as the Trade Act of 1974, was granted to the President, but the power to reduce tariffs was generally similar to the RTAA.
.. and Congress CAN step in to turn off a tariff if they choose to do so...
Quote:Another key feature of the RTAA was that if Congress wanted to repeal a tariff reduction, it would take a two-thirds supermajority. That means that the tariff would have to be especially onerous, and the Congress would have to be especially protectionist. Once enacted, tariff reductions tended to stick.[4]
The one argument you MIGHT make against the Tariffs is that Congress was expecting Tariffs to be reduced, not raised to 100% (as Trump has done), but the way the law is written, it does not say "reduce' but rather "adjust" tariffs. (i'd have to find the exact language again, but the tariffs could be changed up or down depending on how you read it).
The part where I thought Trump might have overstepped was going for 100% at times instead of the 50% (per the writings I read), my guess is Trump would say that the SC would say "if you give him the ability, you give him the full ability, not a hand-cuffed 50%".

so you never had the principle to begin with? Back in the before times, before 2016 when there was some level of common decency and ability to work together, we understood that the president can't actually do anything he wants and has separation of powers.
Here's what President Obama had to say vis a vis separation of powers:
Quote:One heckler complained of families being separated by existing immigration law, shouting "You have a power to stop all deportations”.
"Actually, I don't," Obama shot back. "That's why we're here. If in fact I could solve all these problems without passing laws in Congress, I would do so. But we are also a nation of laws. The easy way out is to yell and pretend like I can do something by violating our laws ... What I am proposing is the harder way ... to use our democratic process and lobbying to getting it done.”

@neverStartAlwaysFinish
The final straw for me was during the Covid era banning outdoor group activities unless it was for a favored cause (eg BLM protests and riots). Either CV-19 is an existential threat to all population or all outside gatherings should have been allowe. Instead, the Dems played politics.

These two are an example of the effects of years of educational propaganda slanted severely to the left. They have no original thoughts and can only spout talking points. They aren't worth engaging.
