I understand the point that 450 (and others) are making in this thread. If whole sections of our country (Virginia very much included) are going to be this stupid and this selfish, they ought be be left to the consequences. The problem with this, as andy and others have argued, is that the damage is never so neatly confined to those who deserve it. It inevitably hurts the innocent as well.
Another observation: I disagree that this is just a Democrat problem. Conservatives ought to be, but are not, taking some serious lessons from Tuesday’s electoral wipeout. Yes, these were all blue states and cities. But the fact that the margins got worse, not better, from those in 2024 ought to register somewhere as a concern.
One explanation, and it is a fair one, is that Trump himself was not on the ballot. But if that’s what made the difference, bear in mind that he will not be on the ballot during the 2026 midterms either. And what does that say about the depth of the conservative movement? That we cannot effectively function without the active involvement of our orange daddy?
If I were Donald Trump, I would be appalled. He has done virtually everything right this past year. Yet none of it appears to make a difference to the voting public. Perhaps that is just a blue-state problem. But I think you guys are being more than a bit naive here.
