Tarleton has the ball with one second left in the first half at their own 49 yard line. We kneel the ball.

Why did we attempt a Hail Mary?

Because Whitten had a Keystone Light sitting on ice in the Locker Room waiting for him? I dont know what to tell you on that one. Whitten gonna Whitten. I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out why he does ( or does not do) the things he does. He is boneheaded, that is all I got.

I think it's because he knows there is a whole other half of football to be played, and he knows his team is going to probably takeover in the 2nd half. That's what happened. Is it worth it to risk an injury on a hail Mary when it's unnecessary?

Because Whitten had seen enough of the first half sh*t show and needed to put an end to it, pronto. 9 (NINE!) penalties in the first half, only 1 in the 2nd half. All 3 phases were lackadaisical and not ready to play, which is always on the HC. He must have laid down one helluva ass-chewing in the locker room at halftime, and deservingly so. Looked like a completely different team after the break.

Tarleton and SFA have already played two common FCS opponents and both won in almost identical fashion. Tarleton also has a road FBS win and hasn't even really woken up yet. Tarleton > SFA, all day long.

Seriously you guys...

It is a common strategy employed by coaches since the forward pass first came to being. As mentioned, why risk the injury or an interception, and as seen in some cases, the int gets returned for a TD. Taking a knee keeps the score as is and you go to the locker room with a lead.

I do a Hail Mary.

Merrimack gets the ball to start the second half. Their offense has outscored ours 14-10 so far in the first half. Our first 7 points can on a defensive fumble return for a TD.

Try and score to put more distance between you and your opponent.

Who knows maybe there is a super secret clock so we could get two attempts at the end zone.

And a hail mary is a legit strategy too. To end the first half, more coaches will kneel than not though. That's all my point was. Watching it live, after they gave a second back, I figured that was the probable next play.
