The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute said the Ontario government created an ad campaign using 'selective audio'

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that trade negotiations with Canada have been terminated over a misleading advertisement featuring former President Ronald Reagan speaking out against tariffs.
"The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"The ad was for $75,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts," he continued.
Trump purported that tariffs are important to the U.S. economy and national security.
"Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED," Trump wrote.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute said in a statement that the Ontario government created an ad campaign using "selective audio" of Reagan on April 25, 1987, delivering his "Radio Address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade."
"The ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government of Ontario did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks," the organization said.
The organization said it is reviewing its legal options over the ad.
RE: Trump cancels Canada trade talks over Ontario's fake anti-tariff Reagan ad
Quote:President Donald Trump announced late Thursday night that he is terminating all trade negotiations with Canada, accusing the country of using an advertisement that misrepresented former President Ronald Reagan’s views on tariffs. The ad included a portion of Reagan's comments on tariffs, but did not include the full context.
"The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada fraudulently used a fake advertisement featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The ad cost $75,000 and was meant to interfere with court decisions. Tariffs are very important to the national security and economy of the U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, all trade negotiations with Canada are hereby terminated.”
The ad, produced in the Canadian province of Ontario, features Reagan criticizing tariffs, saying they may appear patriotic but ultimately “hurt every American worker and consumer” and “lead to fierce trade wars and lost jobs.” The Reagan Foundation has denounced the ad, as it does not include the full context of what Reagan said, that although he was generally in favor of free trade, there are special cases where he had to use tariffs, such as with semiconductors while trading with Japan.
In response to the ad, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute said in a statement that read, "The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute learned that the Government of Ontario, Canada, created an ad campaign using selective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan delivering his “Radio Address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade,” dated April 25, 1987. The ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government of Ontario did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks."
"The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is reviewing its legal options in this matter. We encourage you to watch President Reagan’s unedited video on our YouTube channel."
The move comes as a sharp reversal from the positive tone Trump struck just weeks ago with Canada. Earlier this month, the president had signaled that the US and Canada were edging closer to a new trade agreement during a friendly joint press appearance with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House. When asked by reporters about progress, Trump was upbeat but nonspecific. “We’re going to be talking about tariffs, about trade, about a lot of things, but that’s for a little later on,” he said, adding that Canadians would “love us again” once an agreement was finalized.
Trump also praised Carney as “a great man and a world-class leader,” and noted that both leaders were aligned on pursuing peace in the Middle East. “There’s a real chance for an agreement to be reached,” Trump said. “Our team is over there now. Literally every country in the world supports our plan.” When asked what was delaying a final deal with Canada, Trump quipped, “Because I want to be a great man too.”
Until Thursday’s announcement, the two governments had been in active discussions to ease US tariffs on Canadian aluminum, which currently stand at 50 percent. The talks were also seen as a prelude to the 2026 mandated review of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the successor to NAFTA.

Conservative self owns by the hundreds here. Sadly Reagan will be thrown in the trash with every other formerly conservative ideal.
It'll make me chuckle but we're all going to feel the economic pain.
You need to find something else to do with your spare time. You suck at this.

Honestly, while I had recognized Reagan as the best POTUS in my lifetime, I do not appreciate his stance on no-fault divorce.

He really does, doesn't he? Also, for his edification, Trump said that Reagan loved tariffs and was talking about fair and reciprocal trade, not free trade or even how things were before Trump's second presidency began, which is what Canada wants.
But, well, you know...People like you-know-who above don't let facts get in the way of their narrative.
Quote:Doug Ford on 10/14/25: Let's take Ronald Reagan's words and let's blast it to the American people. And our first launch is going to be on every major network—maybe one may not get it—and we'll talk about that at a later date. No, it's actually CNN, to be honest with you. They're a little nervous. But Fox and other people—but we're going to launch a $75 million ad, and we're going to repeat that message to every Republican district there is right across the entire country.
And we're just going to speak the truth. But you know, that ad—it's not a nasty ad. It's actually just very factual. And coming from a person like Ronald Reagan, every Republican is going to identify that voice. Maybe the younger Republicans can't remember, but he was just the best president the country has ever seen, in my opinion.
In fact, factory employment in America is at the lowest level it's been in five years. This next one is staggering. The Center for Automotive Research in the U.S. says that President Trump’s tariffs on autos will raise the costs for American automakers by nearly 108 billion U.S. dollars in 2025. These kinds of enormous costs on businesses result in two outcomes: higher prices for American consumers and fewer jobs for American workers—and inflation on the backs of American workers.

So---the ad was pulled and the story is over in less than 24hrs. So other than learning you dont mess with the bull---not much to this story. Sure wish Trump would learn to use that same tough no non-sense attitude on our enemies as well.

Is this current situation a consequence of "the dumbest president ever" exerting pressure on Ontario's gullible voters who elect ineffective leaders? And the leaders caved? It is regrettable that Trump is not allowing our trading partners to disseminate misinformation freely. How dare he??
Think of this as a significant FU to the village idiot.

The ingratitude of Canadians continues to grate on me.
Each day, every Canadian should face south and thank God they live next to the most powerful nation in world history who treats them with benevolence and generosity instead of neighboring Germany or Russia.
It is only American restraint preventing annexing of all of western Canada provinces linking up with Alaska. In exchange, Canadians plunk the Eagle's feathers through condescension, lies, meddling in American internal affairs, and trade exploitation.

Libs are dumb. Conservatives don't agree 100% of the time. The war on drugs was stupid and weed should be legal everywhere. I suspect that's a minority position among conservatives.
