Probably no time soon. Putin doesnt seem interested. If Trump wants to force a peace deal he'll need to be as aggressive at driving Putin to the table as he was with Z. We will see if Trump wants to do that---or if he will just walk away. Given that this was one of his big campaign issues---I think he might be reluctant to really walk away.

Clinton said something in an interview about Putin that I think is interesting and might hint at how Trump will handle him. Clinton was asked what Putin was like in private, and paraphrasing, he said he was intelligent and quieter than you might expect. The interviewer pressed and asked what were thier talks like---and Clinton said "blunt". Clinton said he was always very blunt and honest with people behind closed doors. He said he tried to be blunt---almost cruelly honestly blunt----behind closed doors---and then would try to do almost anything to avoid embarrassing that same person in public. He said he found that worked best in his dealing with other leaders. When asked, Clinton said Putin kept any promise he made behind closed doors.

Why do I bring that up---especially considering Trump is very different from Clinton? Because its possible Trump will publicly "walk away" from negotiations---while actually doing things behind the scenes that apply great pressure to Putin---but unlike Z---he doesnt want to embarrass Putin in public because that likely would be counterproductive.

It will end when Putin is dead. Right now there is no gas in Crimea and people are trying to get out. The bridge is a sitting duck now and when the Ukrainians decide to bring it down it will completely cut off Crimea. Eastern Russia is pretty much out of gas and natural gas. Winter is coming. Putin has diverted fuel to Moscow and St Petersburg and Rostov in the south. Obviously trying to subvert any uprising. Attacks on the front have become less frequent because of fuel and armor and casualties have taken their toll. It has been reported that people are gathering in huge numbers and just quietly walking down the streets in Moscow and St Petersburg. Afraid to openly say they are against this war.

This was a hugely miscalculated action by Putin from the beginning. He has decimated his army. He has killed generations of Russian men. And his economy is in shambles with his oil income slashed and getting no relief. He has gone begging to China and, of all evil countries, North Korea. A country most Russians revile.

He owes an incredible amount of treasure to families of dead Russian men. Some complain they are not getting paid. The payments are supposed to be an amount that some in the east would not make in a lifetime. No concern about what effect the money printed for these payments and injected into these poor communities will have.

Putin has backed himself into a corner. Either he wins this war or Ukraine is forced to capitulate against their will by the US and Europe or he is forced from power. Thats how it works with Russia. We shall see.

Will it really end when Putin dies? The next guy will be less bellicose?

When Putin feels a threat to his rule or realizes his army is spent, he will settle.

Next guy isn't tied to Putin's mistakes.

Putin thinks he can outlast the west and Ukraine. But he only has a year or so more before Russia is the one that is spent and the war REALLY starts hurting Russia, not just in casualties.

Y'all are way more interested in this than I am. It puts me to sleep. Way down my list of things to think about.

Since Pootin doesn't want to settle then Trump through the EU should sell Ukraine all the weapons they want. Tell Pootin that when he decides to settle to give him a call. No begging, just weapons.

The fact that Trump said Putin wants to stop the killing as much as he does was an absolute whopper of a LIE.

Trump doesn't know how to deal with cold blooded no heart type of person that Putin is.

Human life holds no value for Putin just power no matter how achieved. Like his predecessor Stalin he doesn't have the tools of persuasion just force to achieve his end goal.

Trump should sell weapons to the EU with no restrictions where weapons go or fall. If he doesn't want them using them in the manner they see fit don't sell them.

It really is that simple.

Bottomline TRUMP looks more the FOOL every time he engages with a known LIAR Putin.

Who cares? Does it really matter if Trump looks bad? He's trying to stop the killing, the only pure heart in the fight.

Nobody is going to stop Putin until he's dead. Sanctions can be gotten around.

And if we invaded Moscow and took him out, the next guy might be the same or worse. The Russians don't have a good track record.

Honestly---Thats kinda what we are doing. We are SELLING weapons to the Europeans and they give them to the Ukrainians. The only thing we have done outside of a normal transaction is we retain the "keys" to those long range weapons so we know they are not targeting civilians. We arent "giving" anything anymore. That said, we are doing doing some intel for them---which Im ok with since we did sign the Budepest Memorandum and we do now have an REM agreement with Ukraine. If Shere and company are worried about the US money sent to Ukraine, they should probably understand we will NEVER get our money back via the REM deal if there is no "Ukraine" left after the war.

It’s good too know someone else that loves Trumps policies 99% of the time can see the faults when they occur. I’ve tried to give Trump the benefit of the doubt but I’ve yet to see any other possibility in his interactions with Putin.
