RE: 2025 Football Preseason
It was a good day at our open scrimmage this morning. The defense is ahead of the offense, but since that is where most of our returners are, I am not surprised. Our OL will be good again but needs some time as I thought to develop the cohesion our last group had. I don't think we are dropping off much at QB. Both Earle and Fennegan were really good. They are both accurate and both mobile, more mobile than McIvor. We will miss the duo of Hicks and Johnson at RB. Our running game will be ok, but it was hard to read, just like our passing game, because the defense was so fast and aggressive. Our DBs and LBs have really stepped up from last year. Still, in the end, our offense came back in the last few seconds to win 38-37 with an amazing catch from Henry. He was a great surprise slot receiver last year. I think he got better. Our new WRs are good but need more time to evaluate. To me, one of the biggest surprises was a RS freshmen kid, not very big, but lightning fast. He is one of those that could be a contributor in year one. As much as anything else, I liked what I saw from our coaches. The entire culture seems better, and it had been improving already. The season is wide open, and what plays out on the field is yet to be determined, still, I am ready and think the team should be in a couple of weeks.

I was impressed with the speed and shifty running of a red-shirt freshman named Raydrian Baltrip. He is apparently a transfer from Tarleton State. He is smallish but very hard to catch. Glad the Texans let him come over to Abilene.
