Campbell's writer Corey Hogue says in his article that S.Utah and Utah Tech will join the BSC. Hogue--how accurate has this guy been in the past? Or is that just an "editorial"? In his story he says some go back to the SLC and/or some go to the ASUN.

With three Texas teams remaining, will they join the Southland Conference? Or will pride prevent a logical move?"

It's a shame how, when we were in the Southland conference, we chaffed under the criticism and disrespect that were directed towards the conference. Maybe the Southland lost respect when they dropped down from FBS to FCS (then called I-a and I-aa). Anyway, as long as we were in the SLC, we were happy to hurl contempt towards the Sunbelt (AKA "Slumbelt"), until UTA actually joined that conference.

None of this really matters nowadays, until and unless the problems of NIL and the Portal rules get straightened out. All non-P4 schools will be in the minor leagues.

I, too, hope the WAC remains. But, it’s not looking good.

That's what I'm hearing too as far as the ASUN goes.

Also rumored is UVU to the Big West and CBU getting a good look from the WCC.

The two southern Utah schools are getting little from what I hear.

What can you tell us about the Texas schools? Where is their most interest?

Well, lol, I WAS going to wait until Friday AM to publish something, because Cal Baptist might not actually have the votes (its going to be CLOSE), but McMurphy kinda forced my hand a little bit.

I'll write everything I know about the vote, and where the convos are for the remaining schools, on the newsletter this week. My guess is that the whole thing will drop Thursday AM. Want to give myself an extra day to make calls into the Southland/ASUN world

I posted about CBU and the WCC. I was wondering what I had missed with the McMurphy tweet. My understanding is the BW isn't keen on a private school and the unregulated money they can spend on athletics.

I trust Matt much more.

Today MB's article...

Cal Bap. and Utah Valley to Big West is the "most likely" outcome. Vote comes tomorrow.

S. Utah and Utah Tech to the Summit (most likely).
Their FB would stay UAC or ASUN FB affiliate.

His opinion on the three Texas schools is they wind up in the ASUN and/or SLC.

He's usually pretty accurate--but has been wrong before.

Mike McFeely (Fargo-Moorhead Forum) confirming S. Utah and Utah Tech to the Summit.

Would stay UAC or ASUN affiliate for FB.

RE: It’s been 2 weeks
Extra Points publisher Matt Brown confirms the Big West will vote to extend invitations to Cal Baptist and Utah Valley on Friday, as earlier reported by Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, adding: “Sources have all repeatedly stressed to me that the meeting is to discuss and vote on those candidates, and that no invitations have currently been sent out. That distinction is important, because while industry sources in the Big West and WAC circles have been uniform in telling me there’s a lot of confidence that Utah Valley will be enthusiastically supported by all Big West institutions, the decision about Cal Baptist is much closer. … I’ve been told that the concerns some Big West presidents have about Cal Baptist have little to nothing to do with athletic performance, budgets, or geography. Instead, they’re centered on CBU’s status as a private institution, and whether the institution’s policies and teaching about LGTBQ students/employees can be aligned with those of California public institutions.” Brown believes the “most likely outcome” is that invitations will eventually be extended to both schools, but “I would not use language like ‘UVU and Cal Baptist are joining the Big West on Friday’ yet.” As for what both schools’ departures would mean for the WAC, Brown has been told that all five remaining members “have had conversations with other conferences about potential membership options if/when the WAC falls apart. As of February 26th, I am unaware of any league preparing to formally invite any of those institutions, but given that some site visits/benchmarking information has already been shared in some cases, decisions could move quickly. I’ve also been told that while there were a few tire-kicking conversations about expanding WAC membership, (with Denver, with Sacramento State should they pursue a FB-only FBS conference membership situation, potentially others I don’t know about), nobody I’ve spoken to expects the WAC to actually secure enough new members to keep the league afloat. Never say never, since conferences are very, very hard to kill…but there’s no DII cavalry waiting to come and rescue the league.” More.
