And this is a good thing.
I have questions about that, as well. Not saying he can't do a good job.
But I worked with the DoD for about 15 years as an outside business consultant, trying to get them to run the industrial part of DoD (shipyards, etc.) like a business.
It was a thankless job. We would make progress, but as soon as we took our fingers off the scale, they would go right back to their old BS.
The DoD is a MASSIVE org structure with zero outside accountability, and in addition, they are in bed with the largest defense contractors in the world.
It's a snake pit. Yes, Hegseth is a standup guy, but this is not a job for just one guy, and he is fairly young, and never managed anything, much less one of the largest, most entrenched orgs in the world.
I just feel like it's too little ammo. Patton, I would trust. Not Pete. He needs a few strong aides to help. Hopefully, he figures that out quickly.
I doubt he can get anybody to change. So usually, you would just lop off the bad apples. But in this case, you can't do it wholesale, b/c the DoD has an actual mission to protect our country. You can't just tear it down and start over.
It's a helluva task. Honestly, I wouldn't think any one man could do it. I hope he develops one helluva team. You're going to have to chop down some amount of depth to jettison the worst actors, but how far in each area will be tricky.
