I understand your point although it is still kind of a 'shape up or ship out...' approach some took.

Count me in as number one as to that thinking. I really like the guy, but I had two reservations:

First, I didn't and still do not like the auto extension of his contract for simply making a bowl game appearance. Unlike many other MAC programs, we only schedule ONE P5 payday game per season, thus six wins becomes akin to Murphy winning 20 while playing an OOC schedule against many glorified HS programs.

Second, and most importantly, it appeared that our Football program had plateaued at that 6-win level with the same chronic problems of the past. Buffalo and NIU just ran all over us, a movie I had seen too many times before.

Then, he changed! The defense got overhauled, we were no longer passive. Plus, the Chris Creighton strategy of "playing not to lose" was abandoned. I know that INT that Powell threw in End Zone against SJSU was stupid, but it demonstrated to me that he was no longer going to run Shaq Vann three downs to shorten the game. He suddenly is playing to win.

He is my coach, I just would like a more defined period of his contract.
