Ryan has managed to turn us into a mediocre football program in just his 2nd year. Impressive.

He has made mistakes but there was nothing wrong with the coaching against Houston. The gameplan was solid, the play calling was fine and the kids competed like crazy. What was much more worrisome was the huge talent gap between us and Houston. In 2019, we were better than Cincinnati is this year, and better than Houston last week.

It isn't possible that that we have anyone with the talent of Henderson, Pollard, Gibson, Gainwell or Coxie on the roster, and Silverfield and the entire staff aren't able to develop them. It is obvious that we have a lot less talent than we did in 2019. Norvell and Fuente couldn't do much better with what we have, and Silverfield wouldn't be 5-5 with the 2019 roster.

The most confusing part is that we have been recruiting at our highest sustained level ever, over the last 4 years; and yet there isn't anyone emerging as anywhere close to the talent that we had during Norvell's tenure. Either we were super lucky before (which is highly possible) and we are highly unlucky now (also possible).

Besides Austin and Dykes, I would say that the only above average players on offense are Ivory and I think Lewis is going to continue to get better. It is very weird watching us play these days.

Nothing weird about it. I told you it would happen and why.

You are weird. Go back to Norvell's 4 years; look at the quarterback, running backs and wide receivers, and rank them. It is obviously subjective, but facts are facts.

Quarterback
White 2020
White 2019
Ferguson 2017
Ferguson 2016
Henigan 2021
White 2018

Running Backs
Henderson
Gainwell
Pollard
Taylor
Dorceus
Thomas
Clark

Wide Receiver
Miller
Gibson
Coxie
Austin
Pollard
Mayhue
Washington
Ivory
Lewis

So the best of the best of our current roster, this is how they fit into the depth chart.

3rd string quarterback (no shame for Henigan, he is a pure freshman)
6th string running back
7th string running back

Gibson barely got on the field his junior year. Gainwell got 4 carries his freshman season, Pollard was the third best running back on the roster in 2018, and that is only because Gainwell was allowed to redshirt. Austin barely sniffed the field in 2018 and 2019.

Under Norvell; Thomas, Clark, Watkins, Martin, Ivory, Lewis and Rogers would have been world beaters, and under Silverfield; Henderson, Pollard, Gibson, Miller, and Coxie would have been average?

Nothing weird about you; nothing at all.

Nice info...

I think you’re providing my point… the program Ryan Silverfield is not leading is not the same program Mike Norvell led. Mike put talent on the field… lots of talent on the field; while Ryan has managed to run an awful lot of his off, and the product he puts out there is painfully average. For being such a good recruiter, we’ve got no one on the offensive side of the ball better than the players Mike put out there. The WR position is thin… our best RB has been chased out the door… Sean Dykes is f’n awesome but he’s been underutilized & plays his last home game on Saturday. The only consistent producer we have returning on offense next year is Seth Henigan, so the program is in a precarious spot… at the worst possible time.
