IMO, Liberty has been religiously stigmatized by conferences, which tend to be run by university presidents who are either woke, or else know that for career purposes they better kow-tow to the woke-liberal establishment. Because that is the dominant ideology of college administration.

The upshot being, Liberty knows that long-run, they are likely better off being in a conference, and CUSA desperation is an opportunity for them to "break the ice" and get in to a conference.

Which could then be a stepping-stone to getting in to a better conference, once other conferences realize that the sky didn't fall in when they were a member of CUSA.

That is my admittedly pure speculation about what Liberty gets from this.

Yeah, BYU had the same problems when they initially tried to get into the Big XII back in 2016. Funny, those same organizations that touted "diversity" & "equality" then when Texas and Oklahoma were still going to be in the Big XII were amazingly silent this time even though BYU changed nothing in their Honor Code.

There are some, who choose to believe that intolerance is a one-way street. No. It really isn't. There's enough intolerance to go around on all sides. It shouldn't be transferred to the field of college athletics, but there are some, who insist that it should be for no other reason than to be intolerant and woke of someone's chosen beliefs and lifestyles.
