How does the city procuring a naming rights contract on their stadium have any bearing on what the university does? Just because this contract happens doesn't mean the OCS push is dead.

Hope you’re right. But sounds like wishful thinking to me. Why in the world would Simmons Bank be buying into a naming rights deal without gaining a guarantee that it’s number one tenant is still going to be playing there for the foreseeable future? Unless, maybe they will also sponsor the new stadium once it’s built and the Liberty Bowl is blown up.

If President Rudd wouldn't tie the hands of the new university president by making commitments to the Big 12 that we will build an on campus stadium, do you think he would similarly tie the new presidents hands by committing to the Liberty Bowl for an extended period of time in order to make a naming rights deal more valuable?

I'd imagine that Simmons Bank probably has some sort of out clause, or renegotiation clause, if the number of major events or primary tenants change. I wouldn't be surprised if that sort of clause were standard in naming rights deals.

I think we just learned the city will not be throwing support behind an OCS.

I'd love to be wrong, but that's what this looks like.
