Conference regular season champs that don't win their tournaments get an NIT berth

Thanks. And just 16 teams so that makes entry a little more narrow than in earlier years with the regular season champs earning bids.

Not that I even want to think about UC being in a third tier tourney, but do those still exist? Would it benefit UC to go to the CBI or whatever it's called and play an obscure opponent just to gain experience?
I could be wrong but I think the 16 team field was just for last season. Pretty sure it will be back to 32 again.

I expect it to back at 32 but I am not anything has been announced on dates and format.
