Jake Plummer wouldn’t crack a top-1000 list of what makes ASU valuable. Heck, ASU doesn’t even have to be good in football to be valuable - that’s just a bonus.

ASU is one of the largest schools in the country in the #11 media market - a growing market ASU has to themselves for college sports. That’s exactly what other universities covet - a location they can both recruit students from and reengage and reconnect with alums in. ASU could finish last in football year after year, and still be immensely valuable. Location, and all its effects, will only age better for ASU and worse for KU over the next 100 years.

KU is AAU and ASU is not. If a league uses AAU strictly as a gatekeeper, ASU loses out. But it’s worth noting ASU’s federal research awards exceed several AAU schools, and I’d imagine university presidents are aware of it.

While some people live in world where they think ONLY football matters, it’s just not reality. Ask any big ten network execs? A conference who makes money from tv rights would get far more value adding Kansas than a middling football team in a decent market

Ask any BTN execs? They’re the same ones who added Rutgers over Kansas, much in part due to tv rights.

Quote:Also remember, the ncaa tournament revenue dwarfs the college football playoffs revenue by multiples.

CFP revenue is speculated to be $2 billion annually. If correct, this would double NCAAT revenue.
