And for what it's worth, Ms. Palin is VERY intelligent, but she was "downgraded' by many because she spoke with an accent, (sort of how many people under-estimate a typical southerner, because they've been brainwashed into thinking accent = dumb) and in very simple terms to make it understandable to the general public.

You don't have to show off your intelligence by throwing out some high-vocabulary words for people to see your intelligence.

Regardless of how smart Palin is or is not, she presented as a dope and she made a few on the fly statements that sounded and awful lot like the current office holder. Nobody is perfect, but you immediately lose a lot of credibility when you say stuff like "I know Russia, I can see it from my house".......

Don't think she ever actually said the Russia stuff. That was Tina Fey doing an impression of her on Saturday Night Live.

You are correct in substance. What she did say was:

“You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.”

I stand corrected, but none the less still correct. Dumb statement in context and diminishes credibility quickly.

What she actually said was a factual statement. Not sure how that can be considered a "dumb statement". She may not have been the best candidate, but she didn't deserve the "Russia" nonsense. That was purely manufactured partisan nonsense.

It was because there was a question about foreign affairs and how, as someone with no experience in foreign affairs (she had be mayor of a city of 8,000 people and the Governor of Alaska for less than two years) would be able to handle that role.

She surmised that Alaska is close to Russia, therefore she would be ok in foreign affairs.

That's what raised eyebrows. A ridiculous notion that one's proximity to land would make her able to better deal with Russia.
