If, by the 6th conference, you mean the 10 schools that were previously members of another G5 conference, they could only benefit at the expense of the other five conferences. And while those five conferences will have fewer mouths to feed, they will all have less money to feed them with. Nothing suggests that any individual school will get more money, and somebody will have to pay for the cost of having one more conference administration to fund.

Your last sentence says it all: this is in nobody's self interest. That's why it won't happen.
