I'm not saying that's a smart move on IU's part, but given that they paid a huge buyout and the implication is that they already have someone lined up, that points to someone who is already available and is a "name" who the AD thinks would "win the press conference".

It takes 3 years to rebuild...by then you have 70+ year old leading the program. Don’t think so.

If he could complete a rebuild in three years, he could easily have another five to ride that wave before passing the torch. If I'm IU, that's as good a gamble as most.

IMO it’s way too risky for the university, especially the athletic director. If Beilein had a history with the Hoosier program (like Mack Brown at UNC or Mark Richt at Miami), then you can override obvious concerns. Beilein left Michigan partly because he couldn’t understand young athletes who wanted to turn pro; and then he goes to the NBA for a short stint. At some point, it’s too many red flags and Indiana should have other candidates.
