Having said all that, ... and the posters in this thread might be correct ... there does seem to be at least a slight bit of cult-esque element with Penn State football — from what little I know.
Now, having saving that, and as a long-time Indiana fan ... IU hoops offers a bit of a cult-like following, too.
Yeah? Franklin and his assistants did a great job at Vandy of covering up a rape. They even tried to make cell phone evidence go away. Boy, I'm a fan, not!
Agree 100 percent, JRSec. And that is one, of many, reasons I dislike James Franklin. Good point. The rape rape cover-up was a disaster. It was painful given my family's history with VU goes back to the 1920s.
Conversely, James Franklin got Black Nashvillians "believing in Vandy football," which 1. no previous coach had been able to do and 2. which I strong feel has been helpful to the university I love.
Let me be clear. I am an older white man who has mixed-race, Hispanic, Asian and black family members on both my mother's and father's side of the family. Jim Franklin helped our family "come to grips" with our "diversity as it relates to Vanderbilt football," and I love the man for that.
Does he deserve to be criticized for his flaws? No doubt. I criticize him to this day.
But he did a lot of positives for the university.
