This year is effectively year zero of the Jeff Scott era. I don't know if he's the right choice to right the (pirate) ship, but he needed to cut out the malaise and cancer that was installed by Strong. It's not unlike when our basketball team finally realized the mistake we made in hiring Antigua, and our basketball team was in a nadir. We hired Brian Gregory, and he took his lumps, but he's now built a team that can serve as the foundation for something hopefully sustainable. Scott has to do the same thing.

Those of our fans who have deified Leavitt are now the ones holding us back. Life in the Leavitt era wasn't rainbows and unicorns. He would get us up for the big early season games (like at Auburn), but then fail to prepare for the "mundane" ones (which is why Rutgers and, to a lesser extent, UConn owned us during his reign). As much as I recognize that Taggart had his shortcomings, the man had us much closer to a conference/division title than Leavitt ever did. The good hires (and yes, Leavitt was a good hire to build a program from scratch) have been offset by bad ones (Holtz, Strong). Hopefully Scott is a good hire. But to think that somehow a bad stretch is something that would cause us to lose hope is ridiculous. Every program, even Bama, has had to suffer a down stretch. Chill out.
