Love Clark, but really don't understand punting twice down 17 late in the 4th quarter. You play to win, not to try to keep the score closer.

O-line still looks mediocre and Johnston has regressed - very weak throws and playing scared. Lucero looked pretty capable, was comfortable in the pocket, and had some zip on his throws. I'd like to see more of him.

Defense played ok, but got gassed towards the end with how much they were on the field. Offense has the tools at RB, WR, and TE - just need better QB and O-line play.

My thoughts as well on the offense, it seemed like play calling was more about not turning it over & trying to keep the game close not about actually trying to win the game so you end up losing. I think the players were in it to win it

This is literally what Clark said to the sideline reporter. He said something along the lines of "we're trying to hang with them until the 4th quarter and have a chance."

I absolutely hate that mentality, especially in a season that could unexpectedly end midway through from outside factors. I hope that mindset either changes or we can get enough money generated from the new stadium/success to stop taking these buy games.

We took a reckless chance when Miami had a 4th and one, guessed wrong and Miami ran 65 yds for a TD. A G5 team has to play a more conservative game in order to win a close game because a less conservative plan can leave you being embarrassed by a bigger loss. Remember that our coaches know a lot of those opposing players because they recruited them or their teammates in past seasons. They know what they can do and must plan accordingly. BTW, Money games will remain a fact of G5 life until support groups (like the UAB Football Foundation) can raise tens of millions of dollars EVERY year. Playing in a rental stadium will never produce that kind of income for our program. The more money UAB makes, the higher the rent will be the next contract
