Agree, up to a point, Marc.
I wonder-if the sheer DOLLARS that are available to some of today's kids had been available in Larry's tenure, which (if any) Memphis kids might have gone for the payday? Purely conjecture, what do you think?
It was a different time during Larry’s tenure. The NBA really didn’t take kids out of HS except in rare cases... Shawn Kemp and Moses Malone come to mind... so he didn’t have to compete with them. Too, SEC schools, outside of Kentucky, Tennessee & later Arkansas weren’t spending squat on basketball, so it made keeping local kids home a little easier. The world was just smaller.
Memphis kids didn’t go to Memphis until Larry stayed home, so he had an authentic story to tell. Larry was just a good dude.
This whole G League loophole bugs me but IIWII.
