Hospitals get paid more for reporting the death as a COVID death. There are plenty of videos out there of officials clarifying how they decide it's COVID or not. Car accident? If you test positive for COVID it's coded as a COVID death. Die from the flu? It's a cardiovascular disease, so no reason to test... COVID death.

Even the CDC's death page (which looks really good) is throwing in "Deaths involving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), pneumonia, and influenza".

Take a look at that first chart.

wow, you would think deaths were moving the opposite direction based on media coverage.

Go read the actual source for that data, you will notice that the notes say that there is a 1-8 week lag in reporting. Whatever screenshot that is is from 7/11. Cumulative deaths have already increased to over 2.1K in that week. Any data after mid-May in that chart is incomplete.

Here is source: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

The chart came from the same source, but they haven't updated it since July 11. So, you're saying we'll see a May spike in the chart after they update it? What date are you saying is accurate on the chart? May 16th, but not May 23rd? Both are still close to half of what the deaths were in early April.

Outside of the 8 weeks would be May 9th (11K deaths).. awesome, a drop since April when we knew less about the disease but 11K deaths in a week is still a ton - would be over 500K deaths annualized
