RE: Games to Watch: WAC 2020-21 Non-Conference Scheduling
Do you honestly believe that Tarleton St chose to schedule Gonzaga because they have a chance and it will help the WAC? There is a reason why Gonzaga selected Tarleton St, not NMSU.

Northern New Mexico is a mandated game by the state legislature. Good luck trying to get decent DI mid-majors or P5 to come to a geographically isolated school. I think the NMSU athletic dept does a good job with their schedule. But there is nothing to gain for a P5(6) conference having their teams come to NMSU. Nothing at all. They will get quality conference games, why go to a place where a loss is a possibility, when a W vs UC Davis or Nicholls St is a guarantee?

Each season NMSU has two MWC/CUSA games for a total of 4 mid-major wins (hopefully). Mix that in with a few other mid-majors and then a potential P5 at a neutral site.

A few years ago when UVU went and played Kentucky and Duke why do you think they played those schools? Why does Kansas play Ft Hays St, Why does Villanova play Mt St. Marys? Why does UNC play Western Carolina? All schools schedule wins.

I hope the WAC is better overall, but if and when Tarleton St gets better, be ready for a steady stream of home games from "easier" teams. Do not forget your coach used to be at a big school. Take a look at his non-conference schedule when at UTEP, TA&M and Kentucky. You will find lots of scheduled wins.
