Here's a thought exercise: The healthier you are, the less likely you are to experience symptoms, even if you have it. Asymptomatic people are much less likely to be spreaders. So, rather than telling everyone to live by restrictions (masks, no restaurants, whatever), why don't we just put those rules into place for those most likely to be spreaders? Basically, if you are unhealthy, you live by these rules. If you are healthy, you live your life normally, until you actually get sick.

It’s not against the law to be unhealthy. Unhealthy people have a right to as much freedom as healthy people do.

So, I don't have the freedom to run my business in a way to provide for my family, because my cousin, Tony, can't stay away from McDonald's. That makes a lot of sense.

Think about this: we are restricting everyone's freedom, because one subset of the population that is most at risk of getting this and spreading it won't eat a salad once in a while.

I think you are way oversimplifying what it means to be unhealthy. For many people it is not just a matter of diet and exercise. I would ask you to have more compassion for them.

In all seriousness, I do have more compassion than what I'm writing on here. In fact, I almost put a disclaimer on my previous posts that I was simply trying to provide fodder for discussion.

However, I do think, as a society, we have a responsibility to compassionately love others enough to encourage people to take better care of themselves. This virus preys on those who are already sick. Other than those who are old, 80% of diseases like heart disease and diabetes are completely preventable. We should love each other enough to encourage diet and exercise, in a meaningful way. If we do that, we have a much better chance at fighting viruses in the future, without having to shut down life for everyone for 6+ months.
