Sorry not to stay within your 140-word tweet mentality. No place in that SI article is there any mention or evidence that home attendance is impacted by OOC road games. Yes, Ohio State fans weren't interested in Florida Atlantic; Florida and Clemson fans cited various things like WiFi, alcohol, etc., but no one talked about who they were playing away from their stadium --- Note that correlation and also how much we have in common with those schools mentioned in the story.
Unlike programs that travel well, what percentage of fans who plan vacations around road games are not loyal, die-hard fans.....but then decide not to attend home games?
Any opponent scheduling a visit to NIU is doing so based on a potential win. Once again, how is the Sham-pain-in-the-ass school marketing those MAC foes and when will the ILL-ness return a game with BGSU, Akron, Ball State, WIU, etc.
Since Schedulepalooza was only another PROMO, then the deceit in improving home games is acceptable. And yes, this latest move certainly has at least the long-time fans on here talking; but not too many seem excited about STF's decision.

My point is that its a buyers market for football tickets for most all schools. Fans generally know what their conference schedule looks like. It's mostly a known quantity. The OOC schedule is sort of the Christmas present. What's it gonna be this year? Just like Frazier ran a promo to present a good OOC schedule to get people excited, the opposite would be true. You just don't run a promo for - "2021's not bad OOC".

It's not some great factor that decides a schools fate. Im saying it's something they probably look at when they're scheduling opponents. And if you don't need to schedule a bad destination school, why would you?

How did some fans react to Bridgeview? Eeewwww, Bridgeview?? Whether they planned on attending or not, they were turned off that NIU would go to Bridgeview. Plenty of P5 fans with a "better than you" attitude see Dekalb that way. Sure some teams will come. But it's not like we can bust down the AD's door at Notre Dame waving the '13 orange bowl flag and demand they do a home and home. So maybe we can get Kansas. But IMO those bottom P5s don't move the needle.
