We have had a good offense throughout the history of our program (yeah, someone will bring up excuses as to how lucky we were and that Heinicke coached himself, and etc.) The offensive coaches may or may not be bad this year, but there is really nothing anyone can do with the lack of talent we have right now at the skill positions.

Our defense isn't better simply because we have a different defensive coordinator..maybe it helps some but we have way more talent on defense this year. If we add talent on offense next year, the offense will improve no matter who the coach is.

I think that is simplistic. Gerry Faust, Bill Dee, Mike London, and many others have proved that completely wrong.
Taggart (and a ton of others) aside, a good coach can get the most of mediocre talent, and a mediocre coach can get great results with good talent (Les Miles).
However talent assessment is the most important aspect of college coaching. There is, or at least should be, a notable difference in talent between FCS and FBS.

Our biggest single issue is talent.
Wilder and Scott never had that "start somewhere" experience above FCS.
Whitcomb never had any experience at all, zero, and yes TH did indeed coach himself.

Additionally, whether you believe the improvement in our defense is solely due to talent or not, Blackwell's scheme is elegant.
