If not Wilder then Scott and Whitcomb.
From ESPN:

Conference USA

Hot seat: Bobby Wilder, Old Dominion; Frank Wilson, UTSA
Keep an eye on: Jay Hopson, Southern Miss

Coaches' fortunes change quickly in the Group of 5, too, as Wilder and Wilson can attest. Wilder is 76-45 at Old Dominion and guided the Monarchs through their FCS-FBS transition, going 10-3 in 2016 while tying for first place in Conference USA's East Division. The same season, Wilson led UTSA to its first bowl appearance and a second-place finish in the West Division. But both programs have slid the past two seasons. Wilder has three years left on his contract but likely must reach a bowl game to remain. UTSA athletic director Lisa Campos didn't hire Wilson, whose team went 3-9 last season and finished 128th out of 130 teams in offensive efficiency.
If we don't make a bowl game this year, yeah BW is gone.

I'd at least like to see how the season goes first.
Depends on how the losing season goes. 5 wins with a couple good shots to make it 6 and I think he stays.
He gets a pass this year with the new stadium and coaches. If he chokes next year, he's gone...

This. One game would even be nice.

Same reaction I had.
This thread is premature....they make wipes for that.
IMO Wilder is neither a very good coach nor a good judge of talent. I agree its a little early in this season to be talking about this and it might be time for the Admin to start looking for a replacement that can take us to the next level. I feel for wilder as he was never an FBS coach but someone who got thrown into FBS coaching wheel with no facilities and history to sell to recruits. I hope he gets a chance somewhere else.
Bobby. Wilder. will. be. here. a. long. long. time!

I hope you're right. That would mean we got it back on track this off-season.
Sorry for all you negative folks but Bobby Wilder will stay unless he only wins 2 games this year. I have a feeling he is staying.
I really like Coach Wilder. I feel like he genuinely loves us the fans and the kids. We will not get anywhere and remain irrelevant if we keep winning 3,4, 5 games a season.

Would you tolerate an employee who is not producing results that pleases the company? No!

Watching the games last season, our team was physically dominated! I left the Middle Tennessee game when MT runningbacks were stronger than our defensive lineman. We need to be more physical!

Its definitely too early for this, but I would say if we win 4 or less I hope he goes. 5 wins would be a tough decision, but he probably sticks around if we have good recruits still on board. This discussion will be more relevant after the WKU game.
I've been on the fire Wilder wagon over the last few years. I stopped lobbying for his firing when we got the P5 win and finally had the QB that should have been playing since halftime at Liberty last year.

I look at it this way now, NEW ERA for us with the bells and whistles to rub elbows with our conference mates. New Stadium, upgraded staff and nearly 50% new players on the roster than last year. It's early to say if we should fire him, let him play out his hand this season. One thing is for sure, don't let him pick the QB or call some silly 4th down play or onside kick gimmick that hasn't worked since FCS days.

+1. Its not about Bobby, its about ODU FB. You can say he is the one who got us here but i can make a counter argument that if things doesn't change under him soon he is gonna put that baby he brought to life in the coffin(kinda dark comparison but yeah that is exactly what it is). If he starts producing results i am sure most of the fan base will be back on BW train esp him being the only coach we had.
I'm gonna wait to answer this one but I'm not optimistic about this season or BW's future here. I hope I'm wrong on both fronts.
This topic is premature.
We need to wait at least until after the Norfolk State game.05-stirthepot

Having said that, let's be realistic and take the emotion and blue coolaid out of it, because a shrewd AD certainly will.

This program built it's early success primarily on three pillars:
1. Hofstra Transfers
2. Creative scheduling
3. Taylor Heinicke
You can form your own opinion as to how much or how little credit the head coach deserves for the above.

Defense has been a negative for the entire life of this program, save for 2016.
However, the caveat for 2016 was that it was also a season whereby we did not win a game against a team with a winning record, and the losses we did have were blowouts.
IMHO the responsibility for the lack of defense for so many seasons falls directly on the HC.

Recruiting at FBS has been less than stellar, We parlayed our FCS success into a high CUSA recruiting rank in 2014, but have been at the bottom of the conference since.
How much of this has to do with being a young program, facilities issues, or just lack of recruiting prowess is up for debate.
It should be noted that 2016 was basically the final year of our FCS players, and certainly at some positions, notably QB and OL, those players for the most part eclipsed the FBS players who came later.
Certainly any lack of recruiting prowess falls directly on the HC (for not recognizing and/or hiring coaches to rectify the deficiencies), but you can form your own opinion as to how much responsibility the HC otherwise had on recruiting or lack thereof.

On offense the problems at OL and quarterback have been glaring.
The HC's decision to go with Shuler Bentley in 2015, especially given the state of the offensive line was just wrong. I have it on good authority that the OC was not in agreement with that decision.
That decision falls directly on the HC and no one else.
The QB issue arose again in 2017, a season that we should have seen the maximum rewards of the 2014 recruiting class. LaRussa went 2-0 and then we went (prematurely IMO) to SW.
2018 saw the QB issue arise again, with LaRussa being called in (over Drayton Arnold which was curious and entire story story in and of itself).
That an undersized walkon, was our best choice, could be considered an indication of recruiting, lack of development, bad luck, or just poor choices.
In any event, except for bad luck, these fall directly on the HC.

Finally, in game adjustments and play calling are very subjective, and we fans don't always have all of the information available to make a fair critique. However, things like going for it on 4th, inside of your own 50 at this level, is not usually recommended.

The AD must consider the long term ROI of cost of a buyout and the cost of the new HC, donations and attendance, vs waiting until the end of BW's contract.
ESPN has BW on the hot seat, and I would agree.
Our recruiting looks good for 2020 so far.
Given our brutal schedule, and the turnover in players and coaches, a bowl requirement seems unrealistic.
He may get a pass this year, but IMO for BW to stay, I would think that we must see visible improvement on defense and get 5 wins.

We'll see.
Due to rapid changes in the past 10 years from no football to independents to FCS to FBS and stadium construction etc, I will reserve any bad judgment for BW as a coach right now. When there were problems on the field, he made changes on the coaching staff which is good enough for me to say he is safe. I say another 2 years before I start judging him as a coach. As a person outside the field, I don't think ODU will every get a better coach than him though.

We should remember that Duke is very fortunate to have Coach K now because its athletic director had patience and foresight than most the fans who wanted him fired.
