Similar (if a little apples to oranges) issues in recruiting, Fedora had pissed off and forgotten NC coaches while going out-of-state for talent which Brown made a point to fix, grabbing ALL the top talent in NC for a Top 20 class his first year out.

If Stinespring is responsible for OUR uptick this cycle, pay him a fuckton of money to coach TEs and be RC. He'll mend the fences.

I can't, however, see a clear path where we are able to keep Stiney and Blackwell and the 1st-year D coaches (who took the D from 117th in 2018 to 30s/40s this year) while finding a new HC, OC and remaining O coaches. Hopefully there's another Justin Fuentes out there who's willing to do that all-the-while ending up with a Nick Saban record. LOL

Wouldn't hiring Blackwell as HC open that path?

Potentially, yes, however:

1- he's never been HC, so anything would be possible, including another 1-11 season. But from everything I've heard, he's a great coordinator who seems to hold his players accountable and let's them know--loudly--if expectations aren't met.

2- I don't know that is something Blackwell would want. He's definitely rougher around the edges than Wilder, and I'm not sure the glad-handing etc is his best game. But I don't know the guy or what's in his head.

3- OTOH, he could be the next unproven assistant to step fwd and successfully take the reins. You just never know. I like it as a move that provides stability and continuity to a program going through a period of flux, but maybe that's better done keeping him as DC, too.

Bottom line: I dunno about that...

I would argue that stability and continuity is not what this program needs. You can't worry about what assistants will or won't stick around, or what recruits will or won't stick around. You go hire the best coach available and trust them to make the right decisions about their staff.

This.
