"Really good" vs whom?
The first two seasons were built on scheduling.
That we looked "really good" against the Presbyterians, Campbells, and Savannah States does not make an offense "really good", even then, especially since we had JUCOS and FCS transfers.

In fact, the only "really good" offensive performance vs a legitimate opponent pre Heinicke that I remember is the loss in 2011 vs Cal Poly.
Otherwise we were at best good vs the lower tier of competition. Against better competition, not so much.
That even applies to the DW led team of 2016.

They average 34 points per game in 2010, the very first year of football. They played against FCS, which was their level of competition.

They then had 4.5 games without Heinicke in 2011. Scored:

41 vs. Campbell
40 vs. Georgia State
45 vs. Hampton
17 vs. Delaware

They then had 25 at the half when Heinicke replaced an injured DeMarco.

The offense was really good for its level in 2010 and into 2011 in which he got even better with Heinicke. The thought that the offense was only good because of Heinicke is BS.

And that ignores this weird concept that the only reason the team was good was because they had good players (or were lucky to have good players)....or whatever strange concept that was applied.

ODU had the 27th ranked offense in FEI in 2016 (which considers level of competition).

2010 was our second year of football not our first 05-stirthepot, but let's look at that anyway.
Understanding that all FCS are NOT equal in that some offer no scholarships, and some offer around half what is allowable, making the dichotomy more glaring than that of P5 vs G5.

Game 1 vs Jacksonville we lost to a Pioneer League team that offered NO scholarships and scored 25 (-35) points
Game 2 we scored 44 vs Campbell, another Pioneer (at the time) league program that offered no schollies.
Game 3 we scored 17 in a loss vs W&M, a full scholarship FCS program
Game 4 we scored 35 vs then NEC Monmouth, who only offered half the schollies allowed in FCS
Game 5 we won, but only scored 14 (-7) vs full scholarship Gardner Webb of the Big South.
Game 6 was the Cal Poly loss whereby we scored an impressive 37 points in a 50-37 loss.
Game 7 we scored 34 (-20) against a Georgia State team that WAS in it's first year.
Game 8 we scored a respectable 28 (-14) points vs full schollie MEAC Hampton
Game 9 we scored 57 (-9) vs Savannah State, who at the time was a new provisional MEAC program w/o the requisite scholarships and who have since moved to Div II
Game 10 we scored 45 (-28) vs VMI of the SoCon.
Game 11 we scored 33 (-21) vs a NC Central program transitioning from DII

So, we really only played 5 full FCS programs, W&M, Gardner Webb, Cal Poly, Hampton, and VMI, averaging a little over 28 points a game including the skew by perennial powerhouse VMI (who has not had a winning football season since 1981).
I would call that good, not "really good"

04-cheers
